The book gives a overall idea of the architectural scene in India since independence. Very well written and with the understanding of Indian psyche. Collectively I believe the Indians lack the self expressive talents and attitudes of the west and their whole existence revolves around 'Hero worship'. It is very aptly reflected in the visual arts viz. architecture. Somehow the intellectuals on the whole are always confused on what direction to take and the direction they take in India is always doctored by external influences. The cycle is repeated again and again through generations ad infinitum! This book talks about a process started, but aborted before it reached maturity! No doubt, architecture in India is currently in shambles.
