About the author (2012)

Mohiniyattam Guru Sreedevi Rajan, student and daughter of Padmasree Kalamandalam Krishna Nair and Guru Kalamandalam Kalyanikutty Amma is the Artistic Director of Nrithyakshetra “Temple of dance” (an off shoot of Kerala Kalalayam the institution started by her parents in 1952) at Kochi Kerala. Her contributions over half a century to the field of Mohiniyattam includes choreographies in Mohiniyattam to the compositions of various personalities like Maharajah Swati Tirunal, Sri Irayimman Thampi, Sri Thyagarajah Swamikal, Sri Kabir, Sri Thulsidas, Sri Muthuswami Deekhidar and Smt. Kalamandalam Kallyanikutty Amma to name a few. Being a Scholar in Malayalam literature, Guru Sreedevi had worked on the Medieval and Modern Malayalam literature for widening the reach of abhinaya in Mohiniyattam. In her works she is trying to elevate the theme of Mohiniyattam from just Sambhoga Shringara and Vipralambha Shringara to extend the range of “Love” in Mohiniyattam. Along with her numerous literary compositions for elaborating items in Mohiniyattam she had completed her comprehensive work, “MUDRAKYAM” a Visual Dictionary for Mohiniyattam hand gestures.
