Caspar Bauhin's Pinax is a fundamental work in the history of botany. Carl Linnaeus turned to it constantly. If you want to identify a plant in a pre-Linnaean source, Pinax is the first place to look for synonyms and bibliography.
This copy has special interest because it belonged to Stephen Jay Gould -- see his bookplate on the inside front cover. It is held in the Stephen J. Gould Rare Books Collection, Special Collections, Stanford University Library. I'm grateful that it has been digitized.
