For anyone interested in the story of English in India, or in the finest English storytellers of India, this book, an illustrated history of two hundred years of Indian literature in English, should be a useful companion. It discusses the canonical poets, novelists and dramatists as well as many of the lesser known literary figures - scientists, spiritualists and learned men and women - who have made major contributions to the evolution of Indian literature in English.

An excellent scholarly survey of India's contributions to the world at the intellectual level through the language of English. Very objective and thoroughly researched with suitable photographs adding flavour to the essays. Can be recommended to students and teachers of humanities without any doubts at all.
This book is Arvind Krishna Mehrotra's great achievement.
I wish there are some cheaper student versions available so that it can be easily made available to students.
