Dr. Badan Barman was born on 26th of January, 1982 in the Nalbari District of Assam, India. He is a teacher in Library and Information Science (LIS) and developer of different online platforms for the LIS professionals in India. His most popular online platforms include LIS Links (www.lislinks.com), UGC NET Guide (www.netugc.com), Open Access Journals Search Engine (www.oajse.com), LIS Study (www.lisstudy.com) and other such platforms. His LIS Links social networking site for LIS professionals in India was developed on 26th of February, 2008. It brought more than 29 thousand LIS professionals together, bestowed them with recent information, provided first-hand solutions of their problems and most importantly provided them with an opportunity to voice their opinions on matters related to Library and Information Science.
He completed BSc (Botany) from Guwahati College with 1st class 15th position in 2003, MLISc from the Department of Library and Information Science, Gauhati University with 1st class 1st position in 2005. He was awarded Ph.D. in Library and Information Science by Gauhati University in the year 2011 for his thesis “Web Resources in Library and Information Science: A Managerial Approach” under the guideship of Professor Narendra Lahkar. He qualified in the UGC NET examination in Library and Information Science of December, 2005 and June, 2006.
Dr. Badan Barman has been working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science, Gauhati University, Assam since 29th September, 2014 till date. Before joining his present assignment, he worked as an Academic Consultant and then as Assistant Librarian at Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University, Assam. He also worked at the Central Reference Library, Kolkata as “Apprenticeship on Lib. & Inf. Science” and as a Research Assistant in the ICSSR sponsored research project “Rural Libraries of North East India: A Machine Readable Database” at DLISc, Gauhati University. For a short period, he also worked at Media Trust, Assam.
Till date, he has completed 1 major research project and 3 minor research projects, authored and edited 18 books on the subject and written 8 articles in journals.
His LIS Links project was included in the 200 Tech Success Stories compiled by the PC Quest magazine, June 2010. He received eNorth East Award 2011 (Jury Special Mention) in the category of “Best Usages of ICT in Education and Learning” in the E-North East Award 2011 held at Kohima, Nagaland (India). He also received KALA National Award for Young LIS Professionals, 5th eNorth East Award – 2014 and North East Social Impact Award 2015 (Special Mention) in the category of Advocacy & Empowerment at NEDFi House, Guwahati, Assam (India) on 28th August, 2015. He was ICSSR, New Delhi Centrally Administered Doctoral Fellow.
