authorized to be licenfed by the faid former acts) to, licenfe an additional number of hackney chairs, not exceeding one hundred, which from and after the twenty fourth day of June one thousand seven hundred and twenty fix, at any time or times within or during the term of eighteen years from thence next and immediately enfuing, fhall be kept and ufed for hire within the cities and limits aforefaid; so that the number of all the faid chairs licensed or to be licensed upon this or the faid former acts, fhall not at any one time, within or during the term last mentioned, exceed four hundred.

XVI. And it is hereby enacted, That from and after the faid twenty fourth day of June one thousand seven hundred and twenty fix, upon every one of the licences to be granted in pursuance of this act, for keeping and ufing for hire any kackney chair, there fhall be referved and payable to his Majefty, his heirs and fucceffors, the annual fum of ten fhillings of lawful money of Great Britain, to be paid quarterly at the four moft ufual feafts in the year, by equal portions, during the continued the annual ance of every fuch licence for a chair, with fuch covenants, profum of 10 S. vifoes and conditions, for the more effectual payment thereof, payable quar- as the faid commiffioners in their difcretions fhall think fit and terly.

And it is hereby declared and enacted by the authority aforesaid, That all the monies to arife by rents of the faid adthefe chairs. ditional number of chairs to be licensed in pursuance of this act (the neceffary charges of raifing the fame excepted) fhall be added to the funds fettled by the faid act of the ninth year of her faid late Majesty's reign, and applied towards the payment of the principal and intereft-money therein mentioned, in like manner, and under the like penalties, as other rents upon hackney chairs are applicable and appropriated.

XVIII. And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, That the fum of feven thoufand and forty fix pounds, thirteen fhillings and eight pence three farthings, remaining in the exchequer for arrears of feveral land-taxes payable in and before the year one thousand seven hundred and twenty three, fhall and may be issued and applied as part of his Majefty's fupply granted for the fervice of the year one thousand feven hundred and twenty fix; any law, ftatute or provifion heretofore made to the contrary in any wife notwithstanding.

or the high treasurer or any three or more of the commiffioners bills not exof the treasury for the time being, and they refpectively are here- ceeding by authorized and impowered at any time or times before the twenty fourth day of March one thousand feven hundred and twenty fix, at once or by fuch proportions at a time as they respectively thall find to be moft for the advantage of the publick, to prepare and make or cause to be prepared and made at the exchequer, in fuch method and form as they or he thall think most safe and convenient, any number of new exchequer bills, containing one common fum or different fums in the principal monies, not to exceed in the whole the fum of five hundred thousand pounds sterling. XXVIII. Provided always, and be it enacted by the authori- Appropria ty aforefaid, That all monies coming into the exchequer, tion clauses. either by loans or exchequer-bills, upon one act of this feffion of parliament, intituled, An act for granting an aid to his MajeAy by a land-tax to be raised in Great Britain, for the fervice of the year one thousand feven hundred twenty fix, and fo much money (if any such be) of the tax thereby granted, as fhall arife and remain after all the loans or exchequer-bills made or to be made on the fame act, and all the intereft, Præmium or rate, and charges thereon, and the charges thereby allowable for raifing the faid land-tax fhall be fatisfied, or money fufficient fhall be reserved in the exchequer to discharge the fame; and all the monies coming into the exchequer, either by loans or exchequerbills, upon one other act of this feffion of parliament, intituled, An act for continuing the duties on malt, mum, cyder and perry, in that part of Great Britain called England; and for granting to his Majefty certain duties upon malt, mum, cyder and perry, in that part of Great Britain called Scotland, for the fervice of the year one thousand feven hundred and twenty fix; and for the more effectual preventing frauds and abufes in the Jhipping of malt for exportation to foreign parts; and for afcertaining the price of ale to be fold in Scotland; and for making good the deficiency on the lottery-tickets of the year one thousand feven hundred and twenty four; and for making forth duplicates of exchequer-bills, lottery-tickets and trders loft, burnt or otherwise destroyed, and fo much of the duties on malt, mum, cyder and perry, thereby granted or continued, as shall arise or remain (if any fuch be) after all the loans or exchequerbills thereby directed to be made on the fame act, and all the intereft, Præmium or rate and charges thereon, and the charges thereby allowable for raifing the faid duties, fhall be fatisfied or money fufficient fhall be referved to difcharge the fame; and alfo all the exchequer-bills to be made forth in pursuance of this present

present act, and the fum of feven thoufand forty fix pounds, thirteen fhillings and eight pence three farthings, remaining in the receipt of his Majesty's exchequer on arrears of former landtaxes, fhall be appropriated and applied, and are hereby appropriated for and towards the feveral uses, intents and purposes herein expreffed: fubject nevertheless to fuch restrictions as are herein after prescribed (that is to fay) it is hereby enacted and declared, That out of all or any the aids or fupplies aforefaid, there fhall and may be iffued and applied any fum not exceeding fixty thousand two hundred thirty five pounds eight fhillings and eight pence, to make good the deficiency of the fund, commonly called The General Fund, for raifing feven hundred twenty four thousand eight hundred forty nine pounds fix fhillings and ten pence, and one fifth part of a penny per annum, for the year ended at Michaelmas one thoufand feven hundred and twenty five.

XXIX. And it is hereby enacted and declared, That out of 732,181 1. 5 s. 3 d. for naval all or any the aids or fupplies provided as aforefaid, there shall and may be issued and applied any fum or fums of money, not exceeding seven hundred thirty two thousand one hundred eighty one pounds five fhillings and eight pence, for or towards the naval fervices herein after more particularly expreffed (that is to fay) for or towards defraying the charge of the ordinary of his Majesty's navy, and for half-pay to the fea-officers, and for and towards victual, wages, wear and tear of the navy, and the victualling thereof, performed and to be performed, and for or towards fea-services in the office of the ordnance performed and to be performed, and for or towards other services of the navy performed and to be performed.

XXX. XXXI. And it is hereby likewife enacted, That out of all or any of the aids or fupplies provided as aforefaid, there fhall or may be iffued and applied any fum or fums of money not exceeding in the whole the fum of nine hundred one thousand and thirty four pounds feven fhillings and eight pence halfpenny, for or towards maintaining his Majefty's land-forces and other services herein after more particularly expreffed, that is to fay, any fum not exceeding fix hundred fifty five thousand one hundred and seventy eight pounds and two pence, for defraying the charge of eighteen thousand two hundred twenty fix effective men, including commiffion and non-commiffion officers and invalids, for guards, garrifons, and fix independant companies for the fervice of the highlands, and other his Majefty's land-forces

in Great Britain, ferfey and Guernsey, and other fervices relating to the forces for the year one thousand feven hundred and twenty fix; and any fum or fums of money not exceeding one hundred fifty two thoufand fix hundred thirty feven pounds fixteen fhillings and five pence halfpenny, for maintaining his Majesty's forces and garrifons in the plantations, Minorca and Gibraltar, and for provifions for the garrisons of Annapolis Royal, Placentia and Gibraltar, for the year one thousand seven hun- ' dred and twenty fix; and any fum or fums of money not exceeding fourteen thousand nine hundred and thirty pounds fifteen fhillings and five pence, upon account for out-penfioners of Chelfea Hofpital, for the year one thousand seven hundred and twenty fix; and any fum or fums of money not exceeding five thousand two hundred eighty seven pounds fifteen fhillings and eight pence, for defraying feveral extraordinary expences and services relating to the forces incurred, and not provided for by parliament; and any fum or fums of money not exceeding feventy three thousand pounds, upon account of half-pay to the reduced officers of his Majefty's land-forces and marines, for the year one thousand seven hundred and twenty fix; subject nevertheless to fuch rules to be obferved in the application of the faid half-pay, as are herein after prescribed concerning the fame; and any fum and fums of money not exceeding one hundred fifty eight thousand three hundred eighty nine pounds two fhillings and eight pence towards making good the deficiency of the grants for the service of the year one thousand seven hundred and twenty fix; and any fum not exceeding forty four thousand fix hundred twenty one pounds two fhillings and four pence to make good the deficiency of the aid granted by an act of the ninth year of his Majefty's reign, for raifing one hundred thou- 9 Geo.1. c.18. fand pounds for laying a tax on papifts; and any fum or fums of money not exceeding nine hundred and ninety thousand pounds for discharging the like fum in exchequer-bills, being the remaining part of the exchequer-bills for one million, which were made forth in pursuance of an act of parliament of the ele- 11 Geo. 1. c.8. venth year of his Majefty's reign.

XXXII. tent or purpose whatsoever, other than the ufes and purposes before-mentioned, or for the feveral deficiencies before directed to be satisfied out of the said loans or exchequer-bills, by any particular clause or clauses for that purpose contained in this act or in any other act of this prefent feffion of parliament.

XXXIV. And as to the said sum of seventy three thousand pounds, by this act appropriated on account of half-pay as aforefaid, it is hereby enacted and declared by the authority aforefaid, That the rules herein after prescribed (hall be duly observed in the application thereof; that is to fay, That no perfon fhall have or The furplus of receive any part of the fame, who was a minor under the age this fum is ap- of fixteen years at the time when the regiment, troop or compropriated, pany in which he served, was reduced; that no perfon fhall have or receive any part of the fame, except fuch perfons who did actual fervice in fome regiment, troop or company, that no person having any other place or imployment of profit, civil or military, under his Majefty, fhall have or receive any part of the half-pay; that no chaplain of any garrifon or regiment, who has any ecclefiaftical benefice or other preferment in Great Britain or Ireland, fhall have or receive any of the faid half-pay; that no perfon fhall have or receive any part of the fame, who hath refigned his commiffion, and has had no commiffion fince; that no part of the fame shall be allowed to any person, by virtue of any warrant or appointment, except to fuch perfons who would have been otherwise entitled to the fame as reduced officers; and that no part of the fame fhall be allowed to any of the officers of the five regiments of dragoons, and eight regiments of foot lately disbanded in Ireland, except to fuch as were lately taken off the establishment of half-pay in Great Bri

XXXV. And whereas by an act of parliament made in the eleventh year of his Majesty's reign, for continuing the duties on malt, mum, cyder and perry, to raise money for the fervice of the year one thoufand feven hundred and twenty five, and for other purposes therein expreffed, feveral fupplies which had been granted to his Majesty, as is therein mentioned, were appropriated to several uses and purposes therein expreffed, among which any fum or fums of money, not exceeding Seventy-feven thousand pounds upon account of half-pay, for the year one thousand feven hundred and twenty five, was appropriated to be paid to the reduced officers of his Majesty's land-forces and marines fubject nevertheless to fuch rules to be obferved in the application of the faid half-pay, as in and by the aforefaid act were preferibed in that behalf: now it is hereby provided, enacted and declared, by the authority aforefaid, That fo much of the said sum of feventy seven thousand pounds, as is or shall be more than sufficient to fatisfy the faid reduced officers, according to the faid rules by the said act prescribed to be observed in the application Overpius of thereof, or any part of fuch overplus, shall or may be difpofed half. pay, how to fuch officers who are maimed or loft their limbs in the late to be applied, wars, or to fuch others as by reafon of their long fervice, or otherwife, his Majefty fhall judge to be proper objects of cha6
