% Strong were thy foes; but the arm that subdued
them, And scattered their legions, was mightier far; They fled, like the chaff, from the scourge that pur.
Vain were their steeds and their chariots of war, 3 Daughter of Zion! the power, that hath saved thee,
Extolled with the harp and the timbrel should Shout,--for the foe is destroyed that enslaved thee,
Th' oppressor is vanquished, and Zion is free. 569.
Universal Praise. 10 CITY the Lord ! begin
The universal song:
The joyful notes prolong. 2 Let Kedar's wilderness afar
Lift up the lonely voice;
In accent rude rejoice.
To our Jehovah sing ;
Shout to the Lord, the king.
The Saviour's glories raise,
The nations sound his praise. 570.
s, 7s and 4.
Joyful times are near at hand;
By his word in every land;
Darkness flies, at his command.
While he enters like a flood,
Means to spread his truth abroad
Soon shall tell the love of God.
3 God of Jacob, high and glorious !
Let thy people see thy power;
Through the world for evermore;
L. M. 571. Success anticipated. 1 BEHOLD th' expected time draw near,
The shades disperse, the dawn appear
To raise our faith, our zeal to fire:
Present a harvest to the sight. 3 The untaught heathen waits to know
The joy the gospel will bestow;
The freedom Jesus has to give.
In the blest labor share a part;
C. M. 572.
The Victories of Christ.
All hail ! incarnate love!
To crown thy head above. 2 Thy vict'ries and thy deathless fame,
Through the wide world, shall run;

The general Jubilee.
The silver trumpet sound,
While dawns the day around :
2 Pris'ners of hope, in gloom
And silence, left to die !
Your portals open fly:
It is the year of Jubilee.
For debts to justice due,
He gave himself for you :
It is the year of jubilee.
The Lord's accepted year :
Through distant lands his triumphs spread; Sinners, now freed from Satan's chains,
Own him their Saviour and their head. 2 Oh! may his conquests still increase ;
Let every foe his power subdue;
Saints shall his rising glory show. 3 Loud hallelujahs to the Lamb,
From all below and all above;
The Reign of Christ.
Let it echo o'er the sea !
Jesus reigns with sovereign power. 2 All ye nations ! join and sing,
“ Christ, of lords and kings, is King !"
3 Now the desert lands rejoice,
And the islands join their voice;
78. 576. The triumphant Reign of Christ. 1 SEE the ransomed millions stand,
Palms of conquest in their hands!
“Hell is vanquished-death is slain !2 " Blessing, honor, glory, might,
Are the Conqueror's native right;
Lamb of God, and Lord of all !"
Come in glory and in power ;
Nature sighs to be renewed :
All things with the bride, say, “Come!”
Let my prayer ascend on high;
Hear me, when to thee I cry:
For the sake of Christ, thy Son. 2 With the morning's early ray,
While the shades of night depart;
Joy and gladness to my heart:
what joy that word affords,-
Send thy gospel-heralds forth:

Prayer for Spiritual Light. 1 WE lift our hearts to thee,
Thou Day-Star from on high!
Yet, cheers both earth and sky. 2 Oh! let thy rising beams
Dispel the shades of night;
Come, like the morning-light. 3 How beauteous nature now!
How dark and sad before !
And nature's God adore. 4 May we this life improve
To mourn for errors past;
Kindly aid my morning-song;
To the God that rules the skies.
Thy preserving hand was nigh;
Grateful to my weary head. 3 Thou hast kept me through the night,
'T was thy hand restored the light;
Plenteous, as the morning.dew. 4 Still my feet are prone to stray,
Oh! preserve me through the day;
