1 The Guinea Grass was introduced in Jamaica accidentally, through some seed which had been brought about 1744 from the coast of Guinea.

2 The Otaheite Cane was already cultivated in 1795 in Trinidad. It was sent from thence to the plantations of Terra Firma. The Bourbon Cane appears to have been introduced about the same time; it was at least in general cultivation in 1803.—Sir William Young's Common-Place Book.

The seeds of the Barbados Cabbage-tree (Oreodoxa oleracea) were first introduced into Jamaica by Governor Knowles about 1756. The numerous majestic Palm-trees of that description in Demerara originate likewise from Barbados.
