" When therefore Ρaul and Ρarnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Ρaul and Βarnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem, unto the apostles and elders, about this question. Απd being brought on their way by the church, they passed through {Ε and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren. Αnd when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders; and they declared all things that God had done with them, Αcts xv. 2-4.

* Αnd he received the sign of ciroumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had ψet, being uncircumcised : that he might be the father ofall them that believe, though they be not circumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also : Αnd the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Αbraham, which he had, being ψet uncircumcised. For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, ιυαs not to Αbraham, or to his seed through the law, but through the

righteousness of faith. For if Εί which are of the law be heirs, fai

is made void, and the promise πmade of none effect: Βecause the law worketh wrath : for where no law is, there is no transgression. Τherefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace : to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Αbraham, who is the father of us all. (Αs it is written, I have made thee a father ofmany nations,) before him whom he believed, ευεn God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not asthough they were, Rom. iv. 11-17.
