Likewise when the LoRD sent you from Κadesh-barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you , then ye rebelled against the commandment of the LonD your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice. Υe have been rebellious against the LonD from the day that I knew you, Deut. ix. 22-24. Υet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies, Psal. lxxviii.

Υe shall not tempt the Lonn your God, as ye tempted him in Μassah, Deut, vi. 16. Αnd they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust, Psal. Ιxxviii. 18. Βut lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert, cvi. 14. Νeither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents, 1 Cor. Χ. 9.

but teach them thy sons and thy sons' sons, 9. Βut your eyes have seen all the great acts of the LoRD which he did, xi. 7. Αnd Μoses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Υe have seen all that the LoR D did before Ε eyes in the land of Εgypt unto Inaraoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land, xxix. 2. Αnd ye have seen all that the LonD your God hath done unto all their nations because of you , for the LoRD your God is he that hath fought for you, Josh. xxiii. 3. Αnd when they cried unto the Loap, he put darkness between you and the Εgyptians, and brought the seaupon them, and covered them, and your eyes have seen what I have done in Εgypt: and ye awelt in the wilderness a long season, xxiv. 7. Τhen Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John, what things ye have seen and heard , how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the Gospel is preached, Luke vii. 22. Αnd thou shalt remember all the way which the LonD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, αnd to prove thee, to know what υαs in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments orno, Deut. viii. 2. Τh raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years, 4. For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, tillall thepeople that were men of war, which came out of Εgypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LonD : unto them the Lo R D sware that he would not shew them the land, which the Loπ D sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey, Josh. ν. 6. Αlso I brought Ά up from the land of Εgypt, and ed you fortyyears through the wilderness, to possess the land of the Αmorite, Αmos ii. 10. Ηe brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Εgypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness

* Αnd it repented the LoRD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart, Gen. vi. 6. Αnd they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the Ι.oa D : and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel, Judg. x: 16. Ηow oft did they provokehim in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert, Ρsal. 1xxviii. 40. Βut they rebelled and vexed his holy Spirit : therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them, Isa. 1xiii. 10. Αnd when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretchforth thine hand. Αnd he stretched it out : and his hand was restored whole as the other, Μark iii. 5. Αnd grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye aresealed unto the day of redemption, Εph. iv. 30.

b Τake heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evilheart of unbelief, in departing from the living God, ver. 12. Αnd might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that set nottheir heartaright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God, Ρsal. lxxviii. 8. Βut they also have erred through wine, and through strong drinkare outofthe way; the priestand the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in νision, they stumble in judgment, Isa. xxviii. 7. Μy people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them : for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God, Ηos. iv. 12. Αnd this is the condemnation, that light is come

into the world, and menloved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved, John iii. 19, 20, Αnd because I tell Jou the truth, ye believe me not, viii. 45. Αnd even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient, Rom. i.28. Αnd with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish , because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved, Αnd for this cause God shall send them a strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: Τhat they all might be damned who believe not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness, 2 Τhess. ii. 10-12. • Τhat thy way maybe known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations, Psal. lxvii. 2. Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways, xcν. 10. Ηe has πot dealt so with any nation: and as Jor hisjudgments, they have notknown them. Praise ye the Lord, exlvii. 2ο. For my people is foolish, they have not known me, they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge, Jer. iv. 22. Αnd the way of peace they have not known, Rom. iii. 17. VΕR, 11. "Ως ώμοσα εν τη οργή μου Ει εισελεύσονται εις την καταπαυσίν μου, So * Ι εινανe in my ωrath, "Τhey shall not enter into " my rest.)

pardoned according to thy word: Βut αs truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LonD. Βecause all those men which have seen, my glory, and my miracles, which γ did in Εgypt and in the wilderness, have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice ; Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it, Νumb. xiv. 20-23. Νow the Αmalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley. Τοmorrow turn you, and get youinto the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea, 25. Ηow long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me: I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me, Say unto them, Αs trulυ αs Ι live, saith the LoRD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you : Υour carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me, Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, «oncerning which I sware to makeyou dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, andJoshua theson ofΝun, 27-30. I the LoRD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me : in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die, 35. Αnd the LonD's anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying, Surely none of the men that came up out of Εgypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Αbraham, unto Isaac, anduntoJacob; because they have not wholly followed me: Save ό", the son of Jephunneh the Κenezite, and Joshua the son of Νun : for they have wholly followed the Lon D. Αnd the LoR D's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the LonD was consumed, xxxii. 1013. Αnd the Loπ D heard the voice of your words, and was wrath, and sware, saying, Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil genera

"Τherefore we ought to give the more earnest hegd to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by aήgels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward, Ηow shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation ; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that hear him, Ηeb. ii. 1-3. Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God , lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled, xii. 15. Αnd Jesus answered and said unto them, Τake heed that no man deceive you, Μatt. xxiv. 4. Βut take heed: behold, Ι have foretold you all things, 23. Τake ye heed, watch and pray, for ye know not when the time is, 33. Αnd he said, Τake heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, Iam Christ, and the time draweth near , go ye not therefore after them, Luke xxi. 8. For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee, Rom. xi. 21. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall, 1 Cor. x. 12.

heart, I willnot again curse the ground any morefor man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth , neither will I again smite any more everything living as I have done, Gen. viii. 21. Αt that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne ofthe LoRD ; and all the nations shall begatheredunto it, to the name of the LoRD to Jerusalem ; neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart, Jer. iii. 17. Βut they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels αnd in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward, vii. 24. Υet they obeyed not, norinclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart : therefore I will bring υpon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do; but they did them not, xi. 8. Αnd ye Ηave done worse than yourfathers; for behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me, xvi. 12. Τhe heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it, xvii. 9. Αnd they said, Τhere is no hope : but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart, xviii. 12. For from within, out σf the heart ofman, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness, Μark vii. 21, 22. • Νow the just shall live by faith ; but if anυ mαn draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him, Ηeb. x. 38. See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much πmore shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from Ηeaven, xii. 25. Τherefore they say unto God, Departfrom us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways, Job xxi. 14. Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Αlmighty do for them, xxii. 17. In transgressing and lying against the Loπ D, and departing away from our God, and speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood, Isa. lix. 13. * Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the Εί calling, consider the Αpostle and Εί Ρriest of our

profession, Christ Jesus, ver. 1. For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Ηoly Ghost, vi. 4. For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure: but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness, xii. 10. Αnd if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olivetree, wert grafied in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree, Rom. xi. 17. Αnd they that have believing masrers, let them not despise them, beoause they are brethren, but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit.
