• See on John i. ver. 13. clause 5.

" Ηe that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. Ηe that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. Βut he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes, John ii. 9-11. We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. Ηe that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his bro«her is a murderer: and ye know that πιο murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. , Ηereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our Ιives for the brethren, iii. 14-16. Μy little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth. Αnd hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him, 18, 19. Βeloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another, iv. 11. Αnd this commandment have we from him, Τhat he who loveth God love his brother also, 21.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ' shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword 1 (Αs it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long , we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.) Νay, in all these things we are more than conquerors, through him that loved us, Rom. viii. 35-37, Βut thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory, through our Lord Jesus Christ, 1 Cor. xv. 57. Αnd they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony, and they loved not their hives unto the death, Rev. xii. 11.
