Fruits of faith in the

18 5 Of whom it was said, Thats in Isaac shall thy seed be called: 19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead from whence also he received him in a figure.

20 By faith Isaact blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to

21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed u both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

22 By faith Joseph, w when he died, 6 made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid a three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.y

24 By faith Moses, z when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter:

25 Choosing a rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

26 Esteeming the reproach 7 of Christ b greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense c of the reward.

27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing d the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing hime who is invisible.

28 Through faith he kept the passover,f and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the first-born should touch them.

29 By faith they passed g through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do, were drowned.

16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.

17 Every g good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom r is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

18 Ofs his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first-fruits t of his creatures.

19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slowu to speak, slow v to wrath:

20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

21 Wherefore lay apart w all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

22 But be ye doers z of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your ownselves.

23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he

was.

25 But whoso lookethy into the perfect law of liberty, z and continue therein,he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man a shall be blessed in his 3deed. 26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, b but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. 27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit c the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted d from the world. 25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out an other way?

26 For as the body without the 9 spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

CHAPTER III. 1 We are not rashly or arrogantly to reprove others, 5 but rather to bridle the tongue. 13 They that be truly wise are mild and peaceable, without envying and strife.

Mere knowing that we shall

receive the greater 1 condemnation.

2 For b in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word,c the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

3 Behold, we put bits d in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor

listeth.

5 Even so the tongue e is a little member, and boasteth f great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

6 And the tongue is a fire,g a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth h the whole body, and setteth on fire the 3 course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

7 For every 4 kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath

been tamed of 5 mankind: 8 But the tongue can no tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly i poison.

9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith ourse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
