THE WILD BIRDS OF KILLEEVY.

BY ROSA MULHOLLAND.

Full of high and pure purpose, and distinguished by its perfect grace and refinement of style."-Irish Monthly.

"Miss Mulholland's graceful idyl has many merits, and some vivid bits of description -notably an appreciative sketch of Verona."-Academy.

"A simple but most pleasing tale, with much local colouring about it to give it freshness and interest "-Month.

"In these days of high-spiced literature it is gratifying to come across a tale like this of high literary merit, which refreshes one with its purity of tone and diction, its simplicity, and Celtic glow of fancy."-Tablet.

"So pure and direct, both in its style and in its emotion, that it can well be available for circulation among the dear young people,' whom Henri Perreyve, when dying, so much regretted to leave. With what a charm the story is told the readers of former works by Miss Rosa Mulholland will easily guess."-Weekly Register.

The Wild Birds of Killeevy' is a pretty story."-Saturday Review.

"No one will find it tedious, and no one will fail, we think, to find in it a refined and purifying influence."-Spectator.

From Miss Blanche Murphy, a nice lot of children's clothes has also been received. A donation of £5 from Anonymous," is hereby gratefully acknowledged.

The month of the Infant Jesus will bring, there is every reason to hope, many a blessing and many a gift to the Children's Hospital. May it also bring many a grace and benediction to each and every one of its benefactors.

Already the new building has risen far above its foundations. The bathrooms are ne: rly completed; the arrangement of the new wards can now be understood; and the walls of the chapel of St. Joseph and St. John are advanced to the middle of the windows.

Proofs of the kind remembrance of our little friends, the members of the Boys' Brigade, and the Children of Mary are often forthcoming. Here is a note lately received from one of our faithful juvenile correspondents:

"DEAR MRS. ———————————— My papa sent my subscription on Saturday. I will ride in to see you and all the busy bees some day. I am so glad to tell you I will have a holiday on the 13th. Write me a letter, and tell me all the news about the big house. I love to get a letter and open it myself. I think it time to finish my letter. Good-bye."

Than the rest of the world in their sunniest hours."
APPROBATION.

"I have perused with much delight several numbers of DONAHOE'S MAGAZINE, and I take pleasure in stating that it belongs to that class of elevating literature of which there is much need in this country. It is thoroughly Catholic, and its patriotism is sound and healthy, free from that wild enthusiasm and visionary madness which pervades some Irish-American periodicals. As long as it remains what it now is, DOÑAHOE'S MAGAZINE has my unqualified approbation.

papers.'

[ocr errors]

"CAREFUL TO KEEP THE UNITY OF THE SPIRIT IN THE BOND OF PEACE."

THE WEEKLY REGISTER is written by Catholic Journalists for English-speaking Catholics, without distinction of Nationality. Its teachings are those of the Church; its principles are those which are everywhere cherished by Catholics; its politics those of the Sermon on the Mount. On lines laid down by the CARDINAL ARCHBISHOP of Westminster, and frequently enforced in leading articles by his own pen in its columns, the REGISTER has for some years striven to form a good understanding and to foster amity between the Catholics of England and Ireland. Thus, though published in London, the REGISTER duly chronicles the history and hopes of a Sister Nation, to which it never forgets that English Catholics for the most part owe the possession of the Faith. The DUBLIN LETTER contributed by a lady under the familiar initials "R. M.," like the ROMAN LETTER appearing in the same columns, is unique in interest and authenticity among the Correspondence published in England by either the daily or weekly Press.

ILLUSTRATIONS: The REGISTER publishes week by week sketches in illustration of current events, such as portraits of Catholic celebrities, and drawings of new churches or convents opened in England and Ireland.

THE REGISTER is sent to any address in the United Kingdom for THIRTEEN SHILLINGS PER ANNUM Prepaid. There being no charge made to Subscribers for postage, the cost of each copy (32 pages, handsomely printed upon good paper) IS ONLY TWOPENCE-HALFPENNY.

THE REGISTER Offices are at 43 Essex-street, Strand, London; and the Publisher (to whom Cheques and P. O. Orders [Fleet-street Office] are payable) is Mr. JOHN SINKINS. Subscriptions can begin from any date.

MATER INFIRMORUM HOSPITAL,
CRUMLIN ROAD, BELFAST,

UNDER THE CARE OF THE SISTERS OF MERCY,

Opened by the Most Rev. Dr. Dorrian on the Feast of All Saints, 1883.

The above Institution is established for the relief of the sick and dying poor without distinction of Creed, and will be supported by voluntary contributions. Whilst the spiritual wants of the Roman Catholic patients will be particularly cared for, the religious convictions of other denominations will be scrupulously respected. Aid will be denied to no one; to be sick and destitute will be the only necessary passport to its wards. The Sisters of Mercy, under whose care it has been placed, undertake to conduct it strictly on the principles of its model, the Mater Misericordiæ in Dublin, which after upwards of twenty years' experience, has earned the generous support of men of all shades of opinion and politics.

Subscriptions and Bequests will be gratefully received by the Sisters of Mercy in aid of the above Institution.
