London, 1777 This is the official trial of “John the Painter," who for some wrong inflicted upon him by the British Army in America, had returned to Europe, and visited Silas Dean in France, imparting to Dean that he intended to assassinate George the III. Dean dissuaded him from this, and he afterwards borrowed money from Dean to carry him to London, where he set fire to the British stores at Portsmouth, for which he was executed.
