The Shelves of the. Presses are lettered with the alphabet, and the Books upon the Shelf of every Press are numbered from one upwards. Every book bears a small label with the number of the Press, letter of the Shelf, and its number on the Shelf. An Inventory is provided for each Division, arranged according to subjects. Collected works are entered under the name of the Authors, with the Editors, Translators, &c., annexed, cross references being given to Books containing information appertaining to the same Division, but necessarily placed in a different compartment.
