An interesting book about Wales in the 1800s. The main characters, two little girls, one rich and one poor, encounter various people on a trip through Wales, who help them understand and appreciate the history and stories of Wales. The book also gently moralizes on class differences, religious themes, and manners, among others, but is never heavy-handed. The differing viewpoints of the two children are handled as diary entries, which gives the book an immediacy that a straight narrative would not. A gentle read.
