The Examination in Lord Mackenzie's Roman Law shall be upon the whole book, excepting the chapter entitled Preliminary, and Parts 5 and 6.

Selected Candidates for the Indian Civil Service shall be allowed the alternative of being examined in the Indian Contract Act and the Indian Penal Code, instead of the two papers on Blackstone's Commentaries.

4. HISTORY. The Examination shall be upon the fol-
lowing subjects:

Outlines of English History, from the Norman Con-
quest to the Accession of George IV.

Hallam's Constitutional History.

A period of European History to be selected by the
Board of Historical Studies, of which notice shall
be given in the Easter Term of the preceding year.

7. The Prælectors of the several Colleges shall furnish Prælectors the Board of Examinations at least one fortnight before the Lists of Examination with a list of the students of their Colleges who intend to present themselves for Examination in each of the above branches of study, specifying those who wish to be examined in the Indian Contract Act and Penal Code.

The original Regulations 6 and 7 were repealed by Grace 3 May 1877.

8. That the [Board of Examinations shall prepare an alphabetical list of all the persons to be examined, and Grace 9 Dec. 1875] shall draw up a Plan of Examination to be approved by the Vice-Chancellor, notifying the days and hours of Examination in the different subjects, and shall send a copy of such plan to the Prælector of each College [and the proper officer of the Non-Collegiate Students Board] before the commencement of the Examination.

9. That the Examiners shall publish a List of those who pass, arranging the names in two classes, the names in the first class being placed in order of merit, and those in the second alphabetically.

10. (d) Special Examination in Natural Science.

1. That there shall be an Examination, beginning on the [Friday next but two Grace 9 Dec. 1875] before the general admission to the B.A. degree in the Easter Term, in the following branches of Natural Science, viz. (1) Chemistry; (2) Geology; (3) Botany (4) Zoology; as defined in extent by the Schedule', in each of which branches three papers at least shall be

2. That Students presenting themselves for this Examination shall be required to select one of these branches of study, and to shew a competent knowledge of the branch thus selected, and that no Student be examined in more than one branch.

3. [That the Examination shall be conducted by printed papers, but the Examiners shall be at liberty, if they think fit, to examine the Students orally on the specimens exhibited, and on the work done in Practical Chemistry. Grace 29 May 1879.]

(e) Special Examination in Mechanism and Applied

Science.

Report 11 Mar. 1879. Grace 3 Apr. 1879.

1. The Examination shall begin on the Friday next but two before the general admission to the B.A. degree in the Easter Term, and shall be upon the practical application of the following subjects: Mechanics, including Statics, Dynamics and Hydrostatics; Heat; Mechanism and the general principles of Machines; the Theory of Structures, the Strength of Materials; the Principles of Levelling and Surveying; Electricity and Magnetism.

2. Notice shall be given by the Board of Mathematical Studies, from time to time, of the portions of each subject in which the Examination shall be held.

3. Five papers shall be set, one in each of the following subjects: (1) Mechanics, (2) Heat, (3) Mechanism, (4) Theory of Structures, Strength of Materials, and Principles of Surveying and Levelling, (5) Electricity and Magnetism. The papers on Mechanics and on Heat shall be obligatory on all Candidates, and Candidates shall choose one, and only one, of the other three.

4. Every Candidate shall further be required to satisfy the Examiners as to his ability to write an accurate description or specification of an instrument, machine, or model exhibited, and to make a working sketch to scale.

5. Every Candidate shall further be required to satisfy the Examiners in a practical manner as to his skill in the use of the tools or instruments required in the alternative subject which he chooses.
