A PRAYER FOR THE CHURCH.

O LORD Jesus Christ: Thou Son of the living God;

Have mercy on the bride whom Thou hast chosen deck her with the beauty of holi

ness.

Have mercy on the body which Thou hast prepared for thyself out of the sons of men : evermore dwell in it with thy Holy Spirit.

Have mercy on the mountain which Thou hast exalted above all mountains: that all the nations may flow unto it.

Have mercy on the city whose gates Thou hast barred against the powers of hell: strengthen her bulwarks.

Have mercy on the Sion which Thou hast chosen for thine habitation: place thy continual rest in her.

Have mercy on the vineyard which Thou hast dug and planted fill it with faithful labourers.

Have mercy on the Church of the first-born

whom Thou hast enrolled in heaven give unto her children as the dew of heaven.

Have mercy on thy flock, which Thou hast purchased with thy most precious blood it from thy heavenly pasture.

Have mercy on the host which Thou leadest unto salvation: clothe it with the armour of light. Have mercy on the nation where Thou hast set up thy name on the people whom Thou hast chosen.

Have mercy on the kings whom Thou hast enthroned on the priests whom Thou hast anointed.

O Lord, remember the place of thy habitation forget not the land of thine inheritance.

THE CHRISTIAN COMMENDETH HIS WORK UNTO GOD.

O LORD, Thou didst work in the beginning: six days didst Thou labour.

And, behold! the heavens are the work of thine hands and the earth and sea came forth at thy word.

Thou biddest thy servants also work : and Thou givest them everlasting life for their

wages.

Incline my heart to thy service make me in body and in spirit strong to thy labour.

Let me sow unto Thee, that I may reap from Thee let me ever begin with Thee, that I may end in Thee.

Nor let me be even as Adam: who fell in the day of his temptation.

For he dared to pluck of that which he had not planted and to eat of that which he had not sown.

And he forgot thy commandments : and despised thy threatenings.

O let me be no robber in the garden of thy Church but let me labour diligently to dress it.

And let me undertake no work but thine : and seek no wages but from Thee only.

O Lord, shall I forget my duty : and turn idler in thy service?

Then wilt Thou forsake me in my folly and Satan will make me his slave.

He will put out my eyes: he will set me to grind at his mill.

And there shall be no rest from labour and no relief from stripes.

Help me, therefore; make haste to help me : bid me be strong and of good courage.

Go Thou before me in all my doings: so shall thy reward come after them.

AN ENUMERATION OF MERCIES TO MEN.

WHEN I open the volume of the book of thy word and search into the treasure of thy promises;

O Lord, my heart is filled with joy : even as his that hath found a well in the wilderness. For it beholdeth the majesty of thy glory : and it tasteth of the goodness of thy mercy.

It bursteth forth into songs of praise and crieth aloud unto Thee in hymns of thanksgiving.

It saith, Thou art my Saviour indeed, O God in Thee alone is my refuge, O Christ.

I contemplate thy wonders of old and thy dealings with the children of the days that are gone.

Mine eye seeth Thee, O Captain of salvation and my heart boweth at the terrors of thy glory;

When Thou didst arise to deliver thy people and to execute vengeance upon thine

enemies.

Kings with their host were overwhelmed in the sea before Thee and thy people walked through on dry ground.

Sinai trembled beneath Thee amid thunder and lightning as Thou gavest statutes to thy people.

The sun stopped his course in heaven : the rivers stayed the fountain of their waters;

As Thou didst lead thy people into the land of their inheritance and didst give them the habitations of their enemies.

And my heart overfloweth with love and celebrateth in songs thy mercy;

When I behold Thee again in the days of thy flesh as Thou leadest the little flock of thy choice.

And the earth quaketh and the sun is lost in heaven,

When thy body is lifted on the cross of Calvary: and Thou sheddest thy precious blood for man.

But death could not vanquish Thee: the grave could not contain Thee.

Thou art risen again with thy glorious body: again Thou visitest thy people.

And they behold Thee ascend in glory : and the clouds receive Thee out of their sight.

There Thou didst clothe thyself in thy former glory: Thou didst sit on the right hand of the majesty on high.

Thou didst send down royal gifts for men : Thou didst pour thy Holy Spirit upon thy people.

And Thou shalt come again in thy glory : and all the world shall stand in judgment before Thee.

O how gloriously hast Thou triumphed :
