And how terrible is thy judgment: which Thou hast reserved for the false prophet.

He shall be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone there shall he be tormented night and day.

Let me hold this sentence before mine eyes; let me keep it in heart this day;

That I consent not unto sinners: nor prophesy smooth things unto them.

O accomplish in me thy word this day: and let men behold the fulfilment of thy promises; How Thou givest gifts unto thy children: and biddest them be of good courage that fear Thee.

Let me prophesy truly in thy name : let / my lips and my life confess Thee all day long.

THE CHRISTIAN A KING.

O KING of all kings: Lord of all lords! I hear thy heralds in the sounds of the morning: I see thy messenger in the sights of the new risen day.

It is time to attend in thy courts: and to fall down before the footstool of thy throne.

O how great is thy majesty: how surpassing thy glory!

Kings are thy worshippers thy courts are crowded with a royal host.

Even with the people that is called after thy name and cometh to the brightness of thy presence.

Thou hast given them thine unction from above in white robes of innocence hast Thou clad them.

Thou hast put into their hands a sceptre of righteousness and a crown of life upon their heads.

:

Thou hast given them the rule over their enemies Thou hast cast down Satan underneath their feet.

Behold they bring their gifts into thy presence and pay Thee the tribute of their praise. What gift wilt Thou receive from my hand: what present of my heart shall I offer?

Behold! I and all mine are thine: we are the work of thy hand and creation of thy Spirit. Accept thine own, O Lord receive all that

I have.

Hear my earnest petition as I kneel before thy throne.

Strengthen me to put down the rebels of mine heart give me the dominion over all my desires.

Enable me to bring my members into obedience to thy law even the law of thy commandments.

Let my throne be established in Thee and my reign be through life everlasting.

THE CHRISTIAN'S REMEMBRANCE OF CHRIST'S SUFFERINGS.

LORD! Thou hast kept me safely: Thou hast refreshed me in body and in spirit.

Thou hast awakened my senses : Thou hast renewed the taste of thy blessings.

O how great is the sum of them : who shall venture to count them?

Shall I count the dewdrops of the morning : shall I measure up to thy sun at noon in heaven?

Shall I count from Arcturus to Orion : and number up the host of heaven?

Thanks be to Thee for this freshness of delight for this renewal of the spirit of joyful

ness.

O the preciousness of the price with which Thou didst purchase it for me the unsearchable riches of thy love!

How heavy were to Thee these hours of the morning which are so light to me.

They whom Thou shalt judge did judge Thee: the creatures of thine own hands did smite Thee.

They called Thee a blasphemer : O eternal Son of the living God.

Thine own people whom Thou hadst redeemed despitefully entreated Thee.

The Gentile mocked at Thee and gave thy back to the scourger.

And there was none to stand by and comfort Thee no, not one familiar friend.

They all forsook Thee and fled so had fear overcome their hearts.

Shall I forget these things, O Lord shall the morning come when I shall not renew the remembrance of them?

Then shall I be a castaway from thy presence and I shall have been named after Thee in vain.

Thy love will have forsaken me and my sacrifice will be an abomination unto Thee.

The gold of my crown will have become dross and my garment of righteousness will have been rent in pieces.

My armour of light shall have been turned into a covering of darkness: my belt of truth

into a bond of falsehood.

Far away be such a day from me, O Lord: let the darkness overwhelm it that it never dawn.

Let it remain fast bound in the pit : whence nothing can come forth.

Let it never have a name : nor be seen in the calendar of time.

But let me always remember Thee and praise Thee daily for thy goodness.

Lord! let me never be confounded: let me

put my trust in Thee.

THE ADORNING OF THE SPIRIT.

O MY spirit! thou art come forth from the realms of darkness: from the land of confusion.

Where thou wast bound in the chains of error : and shut up in the prison of forgetful

ness.

Where heaven and earth were but vain shadows and God himself but a dream.

:

Thy God hath brought thee forth once more : He hath led thee again into the world of truth and substance.

O give thanks for thy deliverance : arise and make ready to press into his courts.

Array thee in white garments: hasten to put on Christ.

Put Him on in holiness of thoughts: put Him on in purity of affection.

Put Him on in renewal of heart : put Him on in newness of life.

Put Him on more and more: there is no end to the treasures of his vestiary.

The body putteth on fine clothing: but there is soon no room for more.

The head refuseth more magnificence: the limbs complain of the encumbrance of purple and fine linen.

The trunk saith, I can carry no more : the burden of splendour is greater than I can bear.
