Paradisus Amissus, Poema Latine red ditum à Gulielmo Dobson, LL. B Oxon. 1750-1753, 4to. 2 vols. This admirable translation was encouraged by Mr.Benson, who had erected in Westminster Abbey the monument to the Poet. Oldys, in his manuscript notes on Langbaine's Dramatick Poets, says that Dobson's reward was to be a thousand pounds, when the translation should be finished, with the interest of that sum while he was performing it. It is more to the original, both in sense and spirit, than any other poetica. version of length I have seen.'-Dr. Beattie.
