I.

ACH candidate for admiffion, as an ordinary member, shall be recommended by three ordinary members, and his election fhall proceed by ballot. A majority of two thirds of the members present shall entitle the candidate to be admitted. And the annual election of officers fhall be made on St Andrew's day, or, if that is not a lawful day, on the Tuesday immediately following, of which proper intimation is to be given by the Secretary.

II. The officers fhall confift of a Prefident, five Vice-Presidents, a Treasurer, and a Secretary, who fhall have the charge of the effects of the Society, and another for foreign correspondence, together with a Latin and a French Secretary, who fhall be elected in the fame manner as ordinary members.

III. Befide the above officers, four Cenfors fhall be annually chofen, for the purpose of revising such papers and communications as

are to form the transactions of the Society. After the Cenfors have made their remarks in writing upon any paper, these remarks and proposed corrections are to be communicated to the author, who may either adopt or reject them as he fhall think proper. The Cenfors fhall annually, at the meeting for the election of officers, report to the Society the title of every paper which has been fubmitted to their infpection, and at the fame time recommend fuch of them as they shall judge moft proper for immediate publication. The opinion and recommendation of the Cenfors fhall immediately be laid before a general meeting, and approved or rejected by ballot. But if, upon any such question, the number of balls for and against shall be equal, the farther confideration of it fhall be adjourned to the next meeting of the Society: And if, upon the fecond ballotting, the number of balls fhall alfo be equal, the question fhall be determined in the negative; but no entry fhall be made of fuch determination in the minute-book.

IV. A council of seven shall be annually chofen, whose business it shall be to fuperintend and examine the accompts and funds of the Society, and to tranfact all the ordinary business thereof. Three fhall be a quorum.

V. Each ordinary member, at his admiffion, fhall pay two guineas to the funds of the Society, and one guinea annually on St Andrew's day. Any member paying twelve guineas, befide the dues of admiffion, fhall be from thenceforth exempted from annual payments; and the management of the funds of the Society fhall be under the direction of the officers, and the ordinary fubfcribing members.

VI. The names of the donors to the Society fhall be entered in 2 book kept for that purpose. When their donations amount to the fum

fum or value of ten pounds, their names fhall be infcribed in fome confpicuous part of the Society's Mufaeum. And when donations are received to the extent of one hundred pounds, the portraits of fuch benefactors, if not prohibited by them, fhall be painted, hung up in the hall, and arranged according to the times of receiving fuch donations.

VII. The proceedings of the Society fhall be regularly entered into the minute-book by the Secretary, and figned by the prefiding member. All papers given in fhall be read in the order of their dates; and each paper, after being read, fhall be committed to the cenfors for their examination, and report, before it is engroffed in the book of the tranfactions.

VIII. The number of ordinary members fhall not exceed one hundred, exclufive of the office-bearers; by these the officers, cenfors, council, and ordinary, honorary, correfpondent, and affociated members, shall be chofen; and the death, voluntary withdrawing, or expulfion, of any member of the Society, fhall be noted on the margin of his subscription to the ftatutes.

IX. The ordinary meetings of the Society fhall be held on every fecond Tuesday during the federunt of the Court of Seffion, and in the vacation on the firft Tuesday of every month; and, in the abfence of the Prefident and Vice-Prefidents, the fenior member on the roll, the other officers excepted, shall take the chair.

X. The principal objects of the Society fhall be the ancient, compared with the modern state of the kingdom, &c. as in article 7th, at the end of the Earl of Buchan's preliminary discourse.
