The greatest eastern elongations of Mercury take place March 29, July 27 and November 20; its greatest western olongat ons are: January 16, May 14, September 9 any1 December 28. Venus is at her greatest eastern clongation July 16, and at her greatest western elungatlon December 4.

Eclipses of Japiter's Satellites. Tho Eclipses of Japiter's Satellites havo been carefully calculated and tho times of their disappearance and reappcarance set down in the National Ephemeris. They are useful in furnishing local time where the longitade is known, or too longitude whoro correct local timo is known. In the following table are given the phases of the eclipscs vísible here, with the Washington mean timo of their occurrence. Betwoen conjunction and opposition the shadow of Japiter lies to the west or right of the planet (by direct vizion), where the phenomena should be looked for. The following planetary conjunctions oscur: January 23, Venus and Jupiter ; February 20, Mercury and Jupiter : March 3. Venus and Saturn; March 15, Mercury and Saturn; April 1, Vepus and Neptune ; May 9, Mars and Jupiter; May 24, Mercury and Neptuno ; Juno 30, Mars and Saturn; July 8, Venus and Uranus July 30, Mercury and Uranus ; August 14, Mary and Neptune ; September 14, Mercury and Uranus ; September 26, Mercury anl Venus. The greatest eastern elongations of Mercury take place March 29, July 27 and November 20; its greatest western elongatons are: January 16, May 14, September 9 am December 28. Venus is at ber greatest eastern clongation July 16, and at her greatest western elungatlon December 4.

Eclipses of Jupiter's Satellites. Eclipses of Japiter's Satellites havo been carefully calculated and the times of their disappearance and reappearance set down in the National Ephemeris. They are useful in furnishing local time where the longitude is known, or tho longitude whero cor. rect local timo is known. In the following table are given the phases of the eclipsce visible here, with the Washington mean timo of their occurrence. Bet woen conjunction and opposition the shadow of Jupiter lies to the west or right of the planet (by direct vision), where the phenomena should be looked for. After opposition the satellites disappear, and reappear on the east or left-hand side of the planet.
