PREFACE

THIS book has been written for the use of boys, and also as a help to those who wish to read for themselves the elementary and practical parts of Trigonometry.

In my experience of teaching, I have found that the first two terms spent by a boy of ordinary power on Todhunter's larger Trigonometry have been all but wasted.

He has been there brought for the first time face to face with bookwork, most exactly and logically arranged. This must be learned of itself, and no explanation or illustration is added.

There is also a deficiency of that which formed the bulk of other subjects, namely of examples in working which he might gain an insight into the principles of the bookwork and the use to be made of it.
