are made good by the owners of the fhips; be it therefore agreed by these presents, That whatever officer or seaman the master fhall think proper to appoint, fhall take charge of the cargo in the lighters, and go with the fame to the lawful quay, and there deliver his charge to the fhip's husband, or his representative, or fee the fame fafely weighed at the King's beam, and in confequence of their true fidelity, fuch officer or feaman fhail be entitled to two fhillings and fixpence each lighter, exclufive of their monthly pay; and fhould it fo happen that lighters are detained a confiderable time at the quay before they can be unloaded, such officer and feaman fo appointed fhall in that cafe be entitled to two fhillings and fixpence for every twenty-four hours, exclufive of their faid monthly pay; that each feaman and mariner who shall well and truly perform the above-mentioned voyage (provided always that there be no plunderage, embezzlement, or other unlawful acts committed on the faid veffel's cargo or stores) fhall be entitled to their wages or hire that may become due to him, pursuant to this agreement; that for the due performance of each and every the above-mentioned articles and agreements, and acknowledgement of their being voluntary and without compulfion, or any other clandeftine means being used, the faid parties have hereto fubfcribed their names, the day and month set opposite to their respective names.

An act to enable the Eaft India company to pay the expences of two regiments of infantry to be raised for the defence and protection of the house and warehouses of the faid company, and for fuch publick Services as are mentioned in an act, made in the thirty-fourth year of the reign of his present Majesty, intituled, An act for encouraging and difciplining fuch corps or companies of men as fhall voluntarily enroll themselves for the defence of their counties, towns, or coafts, or for the general defence of the kingdom, during the prefent war.-[June 6, 1797.]. WHE

HEREAS, by an act, made and passed in the thirty-third year of the reign of his prefent Majesty, intituled, An act for continuing in the East India company, for a further term, the poffeffion of the British territories in India, together with their exclusive trade, under certain limitations; for eftablishing further regulations for the government of the faid territories, and the better administration of juftice within the fame; for appropriating to certain uses the revenues and profits of the faid company; and for making provifion for the good order and government of the towns of Calcutta, Madras, and Bombay; it was, amongst other things, enacted, That during the continuance of the exclufive trade to the faid company, the net proceeds of their fales of goods at home, with the duties and allowances arifing by private trade, and all other profits of the faid company in Great Britain, after providing for the payment of bills of exchange already accepted by the faid company as the fame fhould become due, and for the current payments of other debts, intereft, and other outgoings, charges, and expences, of the faid company, (their bond debt always excepted), should be applied and difpofed of in the manner in the faid act particularly mentioned: and whereas by an act, made and passed in the thirty-fourth year of the reign of his 34 Geo. 3. prefent Majesty, intituled, An act for encouraging and difciplining c. 31, recited. fuch corps or companies of men as fhould voluntarily enroll themfelves for the defence of their counties, towns, or coafts, or for the general defence of the kingdom, during the prefent war; it was (amongst other things) enacted, That any corps or companies of volunteers who then were, or should thereafter be formed, in any counties or towns in Great Britain, during the continuance of the prefent war, under officers having commiffion from his Majesty, or from the lieutenants of counties, or others who might be fpecially authorised by his Majefty for that purpose, and who should at any time, on being called upon by Special direction of his Majesty, in cafe of actual invafion, or appearance of invafion, voluntarily march out of their respective counties or towns, or fhould voluntarily affemble within the fame, to repel fuch invafion, or who should voluntarily march, on being called upon in purfuence of an order from his Majesty, or from the lord lieutenant or Sheriff of the county, to act within the county, or the adjacent counties, for the fuppreffion of riots or tumults, should in fuch cafes be entitled to receive pay in fuch manner, and at fuch rates, as the officers and foldiers of his Majefty's regular forces did then receive, and fhould, during the time of their being continued in fuch fervice, and fo receiving pay as above, be subject to military difcipline, as the rest of his Majesty's regular and militia trops; provided that no officer or foldier of any volunteer cops should be liable to be tried or punished by any court martial, at any time, unless fuch court martial should be compofed entirely of officers ferving in volunteer corps formed as aforefaid; fuch court martial to be offembled by warrant under his Majefty's fign manual, or by warrant from jème general or other officer duly authorised to hold courts martial: and whereas the united company of merchants of England trading to the Eaft Indies are defirous, at their own expence, to raise, form, and maintain, two regiments of infantry volunteers, under the provisions of the jaid Lijl recited act, to be employed for the defence

and protection of their house and warehouses, and, fubject thereto, upon fuch publick fervices as in the faid last act are mentioned; and fuch their defire having been fubmitted to his Majesty's royal confideration, his Majesty hath approved thereof, and hath been graciously pleased to grant commiffions to certain officers for the raifing, training, and commanding the faid regiments; but, by reafon of the appropriation of the revenues of the faid united company to and for the purposes mentioned in the said recited act of the thirty-third year of his Majesty's reign, the faid united company cannot pay the charges and expences of the faid two regiments without the authority of parliament: wherefore your Majesty's loyal and dutiful fubjects, the faid united company, moft humbly befeech your Majefty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the King's most excellent majesty, by and with the advice and confent of the lords fpiritual and temporal, and commons, in this prefent parliament affembled, and by the authority of the fame, That it fhall and may be lawful to and for The East India the faid united company, from time to time, to pay all and every company may pay the exthe charges and expences of raising, training, and cloathing, the pences of two faid two regiments, and alfo of their pay and allowances whilft regiments of upon duty and fervice, and to charge the fame amongst the ordi- volunteers. nary outgoings, charges, and expences of the faid united company, previous to the application of the net proceeds mentioned in the faid act, made in the thirty-third year of his Majesty's reign, to, for, and upon, the purposes in and by the fame act directed; any thing in the fame act contained to the contrary thereof in anywife notwithstanding.

III. And be it further enacted, That this act fhall be a publick Publick act. act, and thall be judicially taken notice of as fuch, by all judges, juftices, and other perfons whomfoever, without the fame being ipecially pleaded.

An act to enable his Majesty to draw out and embody the militia forces of the Tower Hamlets, in the county of Middlesex.[June 6, 1797.1

WHEREAS

An act for difallowing the bounty on the exportation to Ireland of fail cloth or canvas of the manufacture of Great Britain, for a limited time.-[June 6, 1797.]

HEREAS by an act, passed in the twelfth year of the reign of her late majesty Queen Anne, intituled, An act for the better encouragement of the making of fail cloth in Great Britain, and feveral fubfequent acts, a reward or recompence is allowed on the exportation from Great Britain, by way of merchandize, of fail cloth or canvas, fit for or made into fails: and whereas the legiflature of Ireland have excepted from the bounty on fail cloth and canvas of the manufacture of that country, fuch articles, when exported to Great Britain or the Ifle of Man: and whereas it may be expedient that the reward or recompence granted on the exportation of fail cloth or canvas from Great Britain should not be allowed when juch articles are exported to Ireland: be it therefore enacted by the King's most excellent majefty, by and with the advice and confent of the lords fpiritual and temporal, and commons, in this prefent parliament affembled, and by the authority of the fame, From July 15, That, from and after the fifteenth day of July one thousand seven bounty to be hundred and ninety-feven, no reward or recompence whatever allowed on the fhall be allowed or paid by virtue of the faid. recited act, or any exportation other act or acts of parliament, on the exportation from Great of British fail Britain to the kingdom of Ireland, of any fail cloth or canvas of the manufacture of Great Britain.

An act for the better regulation and encouragement of pilots for the conducting of fhips and veffels into and out of the port of Liverpool.[June 6, 1797.]

Act 6 Geo. 3. c. 61, repealed. Commiffioners names. Commiffioners to appoint a committee and a clerk. Committee to examine and grant licences to pilots. Pilots fhall pay for their first licence 61. 6s. and afterwards 31. 3s. and the licence to be in force for one year. Perfons acting without a licence to forfeit 201. Pilots to receive for piloting any ship or vessel belonging to his Majesty's subjects into the port of Liverpool not lefs than 6s. nor more than 9s. for every foot of water fuch hip fhall draw, and for piloting out of the faid port not less than 3s. nor more than 5s.
