HYMN 71. L. M.

Christ's Ascension. Psa. xxiv. 7.
UR Lord is risen from the dead,

Our Jesus is gone up on high

The powers of hell are captive led,
Dragg'd to the portals of the sky.
2 There his triumphal chariot waits,
And angels chant the solemn lay;
"Lift up your heads, ye heavenly gates,
"Ye everlasting doors give way!"

3 Loose all your massy bars of light,
And wide unfold the radiant scene;
He claims those mansions as his right,
Receive the King of Glory in.

4 "Who is the King of Glory, who?"
The Lord, that all his foes o'ercame,
The world, sin, death and hell o'erthrew ;
And Jesus is the conqueror's name.
5"Who is the King of Glory, who?"
The Lord, of boundless power possest,
The King of saints, and angels too,
GoD over all, for ever blest.

HYMN 72. As 148th Psalm.

The Kingdom of Christ. Phil. iv. 4:

REJOICE, the Lord is king,

Your God and king adore;

Mortals, give thanks, and sing,
And triumph evermore;
Lift up the heart, lift up the voice,
Rejoice aloud, ye saints, rejoice.

2 Rejoice, the Saviour reigns,
The God of truth and love;

When he had purg'd our stains,
He took his seat above;

Lift up the heart, lift up the voice,
Rejoice aloud, ye sainst, rejoice.
3 His kingdom cannot fail,
He rules o'er earth and heav'n;
The keys of death and hell
Are to our Jesus giv❜n;
Lift up the heart, lift up the voice,
Rejoice aloud, ye saints, rejoice.
4 He all his foes shall quell,
Shall all our sins destroy;
And every bosom swell
With pure seraphic joy;
Lift up the heart, lift up the voice,
Rejoice aloud, ye saints, rejoice.

5 Rejoice in glorious hope,
Jesus the Judge shall come,
And take his servants up
To their eternal home;

We soon shall hear th' archangel's voice,
The trump of God shall sound, rejoice.

HYMN 73. L. M.

The Humilation, Exaltation, and Triumphs of Christ. Phil. ii. 8, 9. Col. ii. 15. HE mighty frame of glorious grace, That brightest monument of praise, That e'er the God of love design'd, Employs and fills my lab'ring mind. 1 2 Begin, my soul, the heav'nly song, A burthen for an angel's tongue : When Gabriel sounds these awful things, He tunes and summons all his strings.

3 Proclaim inimitable love;
Jesus, the Lord of worlds above,
Puts off the beams of bright array,
And veils the God in mortal clay.

4 He that distributes crowns and thrones,
Hangs on a tree, and bleeds and groans;
The Prince of life resigns his breath,
The King of glory bows to death!
5 But see the wonders of his pow'r,
He triumphs in his dying hour;
And, while by Satan's rage he fell,
He dash'd the rising hopes of hell.

6 Thus were the hosts of death subdu'd,
And sin was drown'd in Jesus' blood;
Then he arose, and reigns above,
And conquers sinners by his love.

HYMN 74. L. M.

The Intercession of Christ. Heb. vii. 25.

HE lives, the great Redeemer lives,
(What joy the blest assurance gives !)

And now before his Father God,
Pleads the full merit of his blood.

2 Repeated crimes awake our fears,
And justice, arm'd with frowns, appears ;
But in the Saviour's lovely face,

Sweet mercy smiles, and all is peace.

3 Hence then, ye black desparing thoughts Above our fears, above our faults,

His pow'rful intercessions rise,
And guilt recedes, and terror dies.
4 In every dark distressful hour,
When sin and Satan join their pow'r ;

Let this dear hope repel the dart,
That Jesus bears us on his heart.

5 Great advocate, Almighty friend-
On him our humble hopes depend;
Our cause can never, never fail,
For Jesus pleads, and must prevail.

HYMN 75. C. M.

The Fulness of Christ.

OW sweet the name of Jesus sounds,
In a believer's ear?

It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear.

2 It makes the wounded spirit whole,
And calms the troubled breast;
'Tis manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary, rest.

3 By him my pray'rs acceptance gain,
Although with sin defil'd;

Satan accuses me in vain,

And I am own'd a child.

4 Jesus! my Shepherd, Husband, Friend,,
My Prophet, Priest, and King;
My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End,
Accept the praise I bring.

5 Weak is the effort of my heart,
And cold my warmest thought;
But when I see thee as thou art,
I'll praise thee as I ought.

6 'Till then, I would thy love proclaim,
With every fleeting breath;

And may the glory of thy name,

Refresh my soul in death.

3 Proclaim inimitable love;
Jesus, the Lord of worlds above,
Puts off the beams of bright array,
And veils the God in mortal clay.

4 He that distributes crowns and thrones,
Hangs on a tree, and bleeds and groans;
The Prince of life resigns his breath,
The King of glory bows to death!
5 But see the wonders of his pow'r,
He triumphs in his dying hour;
And, while by Satan's rage he fell,
He dash'd the rising hopes of hell.

6 Thus were the hosts of death subdu'd,
And sin was drown'd in Jesus' blood;
Then he arose, and reigns above,
And conquers sinners by his love.
