This is indeed an inspirational and insightful book.
Lovelock beautifully and clearly explains his idea that the earth functions as one organism. We almost take this for granted now, but at the
time ideas such as that the rocks are effected by the biology were not at all widely appreciated.
When I was a young aspiring environmental scientist, a friend bought the book for me. The contagious ideas have really been a key driver that got me to being a professional researcher in earth sciences now.
A life changing science book for sure. Personally, even more influential than popular science books by Hawkings and Dawkins and on a much more topical subject .
