To the Subscribers to this Advertiser. I think it right, for the following reasons, to make it generally known that I cannot practise the usual courtesies of the Trade (namely, inclosing Parcels, &c.) towards my late Assistant. He, Mr. JOHN PETHERAM, whom I had long previously known, called upon me, some months since, to arrange about my publishing a Pamphlet on the Adulteration of Drugs, &c. Shortly afterwards he told me that, from conscientious motives, he had left his own business, that of a Druggist, and did not know what he should do, adding that he purposed shortly settling in the United States. Struck with this high sense of honour, I offered him a situation in my Establishment, aud allowed him to get an insight into my business, and to become acquainted with my customers. I likewise informed him, in strict confidence, of having been promised the refusal of a Shop and House, within a few doors, which was to me of very considerable importance, as my Stock, which, from its extent, is now much scattered, would then be warehoused to great advantage, but that I would not press the removal of the then Tenant to his injury. To my surprise, he left without notice, at a peculiarly inconvenient time, and has obtained possession of the above premises. This conduct is the more remarkable, as, during the short time he was with me, he was uniformly treated with kindness and liberality. me, Books at LUMLEY'S, 56, Chancery Lane.
