An ACT for granting a BOUNTY upon certain Species of British and Irish LINENS exported; and taking off the Duties on the Importation of Foreign Raw LINEN YARNS made of Flax.

Preamble. S1.WHEREAS the Wealth and Profperity of this Kingdom do ve

ry much depend upon the Prefervation and Improvement of the Manufactures thereof: And whereas the Manufactures of Linen would be greatly improved, and the Exportation of it to foreign Parts confiderably increafed, if a Bounty was allowed on the Exportation of all British and Irish Linens of a certain Value, and the Duties payable upon the Importation of Raw or Brown Linen Yarn, made of Flax, were difcontinued: May it therefore pleate your Majefty, That it may be enacted, and be it enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the

Anno Regni vicefimo nono, &c. 157 Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That there Bounty grantfhall be given and paid, without any Fee, Species of BriReward, or Deduction whatfoever, a tih and Irish Bounty for every Yard of British and Irish ported, viz. Linens made of Hemp or Flax, and of the under 5d. Breadth of Twenty-five Inches or more, under the Value of Five Pence per Yard, the fum of One Halfpenny; and of the value of Five Pence per Yard, and under the Value of Six Pence per Yard, the Sum yard, 1 d. 2 f. of One Penny; and of the Value of Six of fifteen Pence per Yard, and not exceeding the Value of Eighteen Pence per Yard, the Sum of One Penny Half Penny, which, from and after the Twenty-fourth Day of June, in the Year One thousand feven hundred and fifty-fix, and within the Term of Fifteen Years, to commence from the faid Twenty-fourth Day of June, or at any Time thereafter, before the End of the then next Seffion of Parliament, fhall be exported out of Great Britain to Africa, America, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, the Ifland of Minorca, or the Eaft Indies; which faid Bounty fhall be paid upon Demand Bounty payto the Exporter of fuch Linens, or the Exporter or Seller thereof for Exportation, by the Col-Seller, by Col• lector of the Port from whence the fame Ports; ihall be exported, out of any Monies that fhall

fhall be in his Hands, arifing from any of the Duties, Revenues, and Customs, collected and received at fuch Port; and and, for want in cafe any Collector of the Customs Certificates to in any Out Port in South Britain, or of Port in North Britain, fhall not have Money fufficient in his Hands to pay fuch Bounty, that then every fuch Collector fhall, if thereunto required, forthwith, without Fee or Reward, give to the Perfon or Perfons intitled to fuch Bounty a Certificate under his Hand, attested by the Comptroller, certifying to the Commiffioners of his Majesty's Customs at London, if fuch Linens are exported from any Port in that Part of Great Britain called England, or to the Commiffioners of his Majesty's Customs at Edinburgh, if fuch Linens are exported from any Port in that Part of Great Britain called Scotland, that he hath not Money in his Hand fufficient to pay the faid Bounty, and also what is due for the fame to fuch Perfon or Perfons; and upon producing fuch Certificate, and the Debenture of the Linens exported, the faid refpective Commiffioners of the Cuftoms fhall caufe to be paid, without Fee or Reward, by the ReceiverGeneral, or Cafhier, of the Customs at London or Edinburgh, refpectively, to the Perfon or Perfons producing every fuch Certificate and Debenture, the Sum or

Sums of Money fo certified to be due, out of the Monies arifing from any of the Duties, Revenues, and Cuftoms, under the Management of fuch refpective Commiffioners; and if the Receiver-General or Cafhier of the Customs at Edinburgh fhall not have Money fufficient in his Hands to pay the Bounty fo certified to be due, the Commiffioners of his Majesty's Cuftoms at Edinburgh, or any Three of them, fhall forthwith, without Fee or Reward, give fuch Exporter, or Seller for Exportation, a Certificate, certifying the fame to the Commiffioners of his Majefty's Customs at London; which Certificate being affixed to the Debentures for the Bounty of the faid Linens fo exported, and being produced to the faid Commiffioners of his Majesty's Customs at London, they the faid Commiffioners are hereby authorised and required, on Demand, by fuch Exporter, or Seller for Exportation, or other Perfon legally authorised to receive the fame, that fhall bring fuch Certificate and Debenture, to caufe the Money thereby certified to be due, to be paid by the Receiver-General or Cafhier of the Cuftoms, without Fee or Reward, out of the Monies that fhall be in his Hands, arifing from any of the Duties, Revenues, and Customs, under the Management of the faid Commiflioners at London.

Quantity and §2. PROVIDED always, That the ExLinens, to be Porter, or Seller for Exportation, of fuch entered and British or Irish Linens, fhall, in his Enthe Cocket, try thereof, exprefs the Quantity and Vaand Certificate lue, and likewife indorfe on the Cocquet Searcher pro granted upon fuch Entry, the true Quanduced, and tity and Value of the Linens intended to Security given be fhipped; and moreover fhall, before landing; he receives fuch Bounty, produce a Certificate from the Searcher, or other proper Officer appointed to fee the fame fhipped, verifying the fhipping thereof; and hall likewife give fufficient Security to the Collector or Customer of the Port, in the Penalty of double the Value of the Goods intended to be exported, and One hundred Pounds, (which Security every fuch Collector or Customer is hereby impowered and required to take in the Name and to the Ufe of his Majesty, his Heirs and Succeffors), that fuch Linens fo fhipped, or intended to be shipped, or any Part thereof, fhall not be relanded, or brought on fhore again in any Port or Part of Great
