Motion for a Reduction.

A

To the Hon. the Commons of Great Britaint in Parliament assembled.

of an Act Obedience to the Directions paffed in the laft Seffion of Parliament, intituled, " "An Act for the Application of the Rents and Profits of the Ellates forfeited by the Attainders of James late E of Derwent water, and Charles Radcliffe; requiring the Commiflioners or Governors of the Royal Hofpital for Seamen at Greenwich, to contract and agree with Bable and fufficient Tradefmen, Artificers, or other Perfons, for finishing and compleating the faid Royal Hofpital, in a Workman-like and fubftantial Manner, on the cafieft and most reasonable Terms, according to the Plan laid before the Houle of Commons in the faid Seffion of Parlia cment, and to lay their Proceedings therein, with their annual Accounts, before his Majefty and both Houfes of Parliament refpectively:"

HESE Refolutions were agreed to by the Houfe the next Day; and as foon as they were agreed to, a Motion was made," That an humble Addrefs fhould be prefented to his Majefty, to acquainted him with the Readiness, wherewith his faithful Commons had agreed to the Continuance of the extraordinary Expence, which he had thought neceflary in the prefent Juncture; in which Refolution they had concurred with the greater Chearfulness and Willingness, as a fuitable and grateful Return to his Royal Goodnefs in ordering fo confiderable a Reduc- D tion of his Forces both by Sea and Land, as foon as the prefent Pofture of Affairs would permit, and in full Confidence, that it was his Royal Intention, as foon as there fhould be a more perfect Reconciliation among the feveral Powers of Europe, to make fuch further Reduction of his Forces, as might be confiftent with the Security and Dignity of his Majellys Royal Perfon and Government, and with our prefent happy Conftitution, not doubting, but that, from his Fatherly Compaffion to his People, he would be graciously pleafed to direct, that whatever Land Forces fhould thereafter be thought neceffary, fhould be eftablifhed in fuch a Manner, as thould make the Saving more fenfible, and the future Burthen lefs grievous to the Nation ?"

This Motion occafioned another long Debate, in which, befides the Gentlemen who spoke for the last mentioned Motion, G 7-n Pitt, Efq; and L-d P-th spoke for this Motion; and, befides the Gentlemen who spoke against the last mentioned Motion, Col. BI— -n, Jn Cd-t Efq; and fome others, fpoke against this: And the Question being at laft put, it was car ried in the Negative without a Division.

Greenwich Hofpital Report.

The fame Day was prefented to the Houfe the following Report of the Proceedings of the Commiffioners of the Royal Hofpital for Seamen at Greenwich.

The Commiffioners and Governors of faid Hofpital do humbly report, as follows. There has been received from the ExArrears remaining there of the Rents of chequer the Sum of $1827. 134. being the the Eftate, which Sum has been invested in Bank Annuities at 31. per Cent, untill there fhall be Occafion to difpofe of the fame, pursuant to the Purposes of the A&t of Parliament.

There has been likewife received out of the Rents of the Estate, the Sum of 21787 13s. id. if.

As to their Proceedings in carrying on the Building, the Foundations of the Q Mary's Court are in a great Meafire laid, and the Walls of the Chapel and Kitchen are carried up to the Top of the Plinth, which is, to the Cills of the Windows of the Bafe Story, the Expence of which has amounted to 10891. iss. 4d.

AS the Sinking Fund is now a frequent Topick of Converfation, and as every Man in the Nation who has any Property, or pays any Taxes, or purchases. any Strong-beer, Small-beer, Brandy, or any other Neceflaries of Life, upon which Taxes are paid, is very much interested in the regular and faithful Application of that Fund to the Ufcs for which it was defigned, we fhall give our Readers the Ace counts of that Fund, deliver'd into Parlia ment January 31.

Sa Company to difcharge Annuities at 41. per Cent, on the principal Sum of 7,423,1081. 4. 10 d. halt-penny, to which the Sum of 8,329,2911. 2s. 1 d. fubfcribed into their Capital, is reduced, by aba sing from the fame 906,1821. 7. 2 d. Half-penny, for a proportional Part of the Sum of 4,500,000. repaid to the faid Company, for redeeming fo much of their whole Capital, and the Annuities attending the fame, being the Remainder of 9,534,3571. 133. 11 d. 3 Farthings, to which the Proprietors of certain Orders in the four Lotteries 1711 and 1712, and the Debt due to certain Bankers and others, were entitled for the Half Year ended Lady-day 1735.

By ditto Company to discharge Annu ties at 41. per Cent, on the principal Sum of 667,1177. is. 7 d. to which the Sum of 748,555 l. 19s. 5 d. subfcribed into their Capital, is reduced by abating from the fame 81,430. 175. 1od. for a proportional Part of the Sum of 4,500,000 7. repaid to the faid Company for redeeming fo much of their whole Capital, and the Annuities attending the fame, Being the Remainder of 947,5141. 7. 8 d. to which the Proprietors of certain Tallies of Sol. were entitled, that were ftruck at the Exchequer to make good fundry Deficiencies, Anno 1716, for the Half Year ended Lady-day 1735.

By ditto Company to discharge Annuities at 41. per Cent. on the prin cipal Sum of 1,079,0641. 18 s. 3 d. Half-penny, to which the Sum of 1,210,792 l. 13 s. 8 d. fubfcribed into their Capital is reduced, by abating from the fame 131,727 l. 15 s. 4 d. Half penny, for a proportional Part of the Sum of 4,500,000l. repaid to the faid Company for redeeming fo much of their whole Capital, and the Annuities attending the fame, being the Remainder of 1,603,987 1. 8 s. 1 d. Half.penny, to which the Proprietors of certain Army Debentures made forth to March 21, 1719. were intitled for the Half Year ended at Lady day 1735.

By ditto Company to difcharge Annuities of 4. per Cent. on the prin cipal Sum of 96,074 1. 9 s. 9 d. half-penny, to which the Sum of 107,802 1. 17. 4 d. fubfcribed into their Capital is reduced, by abating from the fame 11,728 1.7 s. 6d. half-penny, for a proportional Part of the Sum of 4,500,000!. repaid to the faid Company for redeeming fo much of their whole Cap tal, and the Annuities attending the fame, being the Remainder of 110,3121. 7. 4 d. to which the Proprietors of certain Tallies of Sol, were intitled, that were ftruck for the Service of the Navy, and the Vicrualling thereof, for the Half Year ended at Lady-day 1735.

By ditto Company, and the Bank of England claiming under them, for the Half Year ended at Lady-day 1735, on 4,267!. 4 s. 8 d. half penny per Ann. being fuch Part of 10,5161. 1 s. 7 d. per Ann. Refidue of 12 000. per Ann. allowed them for Charges of Management on Subfcription by the Act 6 Geo. I. as is chargeable on this Fund.

By the Sufferers of Nevis and St Christophers for Annuities at the Rate of 31. per Cent. and upon the principal Sum of 37,821 1. ss. 1d. Farthing, Refidue of 141,093 l. 15 s. 1 d. Farthing contained in Orders of Debentures made forth by the Commiffioners for Affairs of Trade and Plantations for the Half Year ended at Lady day 1735.

Ballance is the Over plus, which at or before Lady day 1735, did arife by the faid General Fund in this Half Year, (when the Sum of 37,318. 9. 8 d. three Farthings per contra fhall be made good by Parliament) over and above fufficient to fatisfy all Annuities and other Sums due or payable out of the fame, which Excefs or Surplus is carried to the Sinking Fund
