FELLOW OF ST CATHARINE'S COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE; WITH NOTES, FOR THE USE OF SCHOOLS. London: CAMBRIDGE WAREHOUSE, 17, PATERNOSTER Row. 1875. [All Rights reserved.] 2357 PREFACE. THE text of this edition is based on that of Bornemann, to whose readings I have generally returned after comparing them carefully with those of his successors. I am also much indebted to the editions of Breitenbach, Hutchinson, White and others. The notes will in many cases appear elementary to the advanced scholar, but my experience of the Local Examinations leads me to think they are not on that account unnecessary. Instead of explaining a construction at length, as I have usually done, it might have been more profitable to the student had I been able to refer him to the page in his grammar, but, with so many different grammars in use, this course was found to be impracticable. |
