Geneve, I. de Tournes, 1635 This book is extremely rare, and is not recorded by Brunet amongst the writings of Vulson de la Colombière. In vindicating the independence of the Gallican Church, his researches led him too far for orthodox toleration, and it is probable that many copies of the work were destroyed.

Oxon. F. Barnesius, 1617 16568 [DODD (Charles) or the Rev. Hugh TOOTLE] CHURCH HISTORY

OF ENGLAND FROM 1500 TO 1688, CHIEFLY WITH
CATHOLICKS, 3 vols. folio, half calf, scarce, £4.

Brussels, 1737-39-42 16569 the same, 3 vols. folio, whole calf, £5.

1737-42 Fetched at Bindley's sale, £7; the Marquis of Townshend's, £10. 108 ; Sir M. Sykes's, £12; Nassau's, £12. 12s ; Rev. T. Williams, £17. 10s.

“ Published as an antidote to Burnet, and avowedly written as a defence of the Roman Catholics.”- Lowndes.

It has been stated that this book, although bearing the imprint of Brussels, was evidently printed in England-not at Sherborne, as mentioned by Lowndes, but in London ; and that an inspection of W. Bowyer's ledger showed it issued from his press. But really it is hard to believe the latter assertion, as there are various typothetical peculiarities utterly at variance with the

traditional correctness of Bowyer's productions. 16570 [CONSTABLE] Specimen of Amendments candidly proposed to the

compiler of the Church History of England, from 1500 to 1688, by Olerophilus Alethes, 12mo. calf, 158

1741 Evidently written by a Jesuit, the Order having received unaffectionate treatment in Dod's Church History.
