16970 AQUINATIS (S. Thomæ) [Quæstiones disputatæ de Veritate] stout

folio, hf. bd. fine copy, £5. Rome, Arnoldus Pannurtz, 1476

One of the latest and scarcest productions of the famous first press of Rome, from which Schweinheim had already seceded. Soon after the date of

this volume, both partners were in the grave. 16980 Divi THOME AQUINATIS continuum in libr. EVANGELII SECUNDUM

CODEX APOCALIPSIS duodenario ecclesiarum numero ita duodenario ordine librorum incisione distinctio.-EXPLANATIO DANIELIS prophete ab auctore b’i jeh’i (S. HIERONYMO)—in 1 vol. stout roy. folio.

Magnificent Spanish Manuscript on Vellum, with 110 Miniatures, all very large but many of them nearly 14 inches by 6 in dimension, and some larger still

, painted on grounds of deep and vivid colour, -including a circular Map of the World,

ancient calf binding, enclosed in a morocco case, £1600. Written in North Spain ( Old Castile

or Aragon) about A.D. 1150 The finest extant monument of Spanish graphic art in the time of Alfonso VII the Emperor. According to the opinion of Comte Bastard, there is no twelfth century MS. in existence

which can presume to rival this grand volume in artistic value. 16982 BLEEK (Friedrich) Einleitung in die Heilige Schrift, 2 vols. 8vo. calf gilt, 158

Berlin, 1860-62 16983 BROWN (Rev. T. R.) Readings and critical notes on the difficult

texts of the Scripture, 8vo. bound, 30s Southwick, 1848

Only three copics printed. The extraordinary character of these notes, as well as the fact that the author was also the private printer, ought to recommend the book.

: CANON LAW, COUNCILS. 1711 17024 BONIFACIUS. INCIPIT LIBER SEXTUS DECRETALIū

DNI BONIFACII PAPE VIII, large folio, printed on vellum, with painted capitals and a finely illuminated initial; bound in brown morocco extra, gilt edges, by Niedrée, £120.

Mogunt. per Petrum Schoiffer de Gernszhen, 1470

RARE. Didot's copy, similar to this and also in a modern binding, fetched £172. The book is a fine cxample of the Schöffer press, and has the colophon, printed in red ink, which proves beyond dispute that Mentz was the birthplace of

typography.

APPARATU DNI. Jo. AN., roy. folio, printed on
Vellum, bound in parchment, fine copy, £84.

Magunt. Petr. Schoiffer, 1471 WITH THE FOUR EXTREMELY RARE ADDITIONAL LEAVES which contain the Rule of St. Francis and the “ execrabilis” constitution of John XXII.

As a specimen of vellum-printing, and of the first printing

press, this is a volume of no small interest.
17026 BARBACIÆ (Andreæ) Repetitio Solennis Rubricæ de Fide

Instrumentorum, Ed. Princ. Bononiæ (Ugo Ruggerius), 1474-
BARTHOLOMEI CEPOLLE Cautelle, Mediolani, Christoforus Wal-
darfer, 1475—2 vols. in 1, folio, old red MOROCCO, gilt edges,
EXCESSIVELY RARE, £5.

1474-75 Both works are amongst the earliest productions of the celebrated presses from which they emanated. The second book is a curious collection of nice

law-points, quibbles and quillets, and hints for sharp practice. b. Decrees of Councils and Synods; Acts of

Provincial Churches, 17027 CONCILIA. CONCILIORUM OMNIUM GENERALIUM PRO

VINCIALIUM COLLECTIO REGIA, 37 vols. roy. folio, old red morocco gilt, with the Arms of Louis XIV in gold on the sides and the royal crown and interlaced LL on the backs, gilt and marbled edges, A LARGE AND MAGNIFICENT COPY, £110.

Paris. e typog. Regia, 1644 “Cette collection se trouve difficilement," - says Brunet; a remark which applies with tenfold force to the occurrence of such a superb uniform copy as this. When it is remembered that Mansi's great collection of Councils stops short with the fifteenth century, the value of the older collections becomes

apparent. This is usually called the Royal or the Louvre collection. 17028 CONCILIA. NOVA COLLECTIO CONCILIORUM. STEPHANUS BALUZIUS

in unum collegit, cum notis illustravit, LARGE PAPER, 1 vol. roy. folio (all published), old French red morocco gilt, gilt edges, FINE

Paris. 1683 This is a necessary supplement to various cditions, and must be appended either to Labbé's, or Hardouin's, or the Royal Councils.
