The autographs are mounted in three volumes, and nearly all of them are illustrated with portraits. With the few ex

ceptions pointed out in the notes every manuscript and letter is holograph, and every letter is signed with the writer's name.

AUTOGRAPHS.

ADDISON, JOSEPH. A copy of "Rime et Prose di M. Giovanni della Casa. In Venetia. M.D.L.XIII," with the signature, "J. Addison, Sept. 28, 1700," on the titlepage, and eight and a half pages in his autograph, on the fly leaves.

In the second part of the work, "Il Galateo," Addison has marked numerous passages which are quoted in the Tatler, Guardian, etc.

This MS. was formerly in the possession of Herr Strumpff, who brought it from Leipsic in 1820.

Lady Anne Barnard (née Lady Anne Lindsay) was the author, or joint author, of the tragic ballad of “ Old Robin Gray." She invites her correspondent to a dish of unscandalous tea; and says, "I hope Lord Eldon will find out the longitude of right and wrong before he decides your cause."

(iii) Sth. Molton Street, Friday, Jany. 27, 1804. 3 pages: signed, "Yours devoted Will Blake." Is working hard; hopes to "make a figure in the great dance of life that shall amuse the spectators in the sky." A very rhapsodical letter.

(iv) Sth. Molton Street, April 7, 1804. 3 pages: signed, "Your anxiously devoted Will Blake." "You are considered the great leading character in literature," etc.

(v) Friday May or March ?) 25 (1805). 3 pages, signed. "Yours with sincerity, William Blake." Refers to his illustrations to the book of ballads, and forwards a copy of his advertisement. He mentions Flaxman, Fuseli and Banks.

Fragment of a Love Sonnet, with above it a Sketch in

The love fragment consists of one or two suggestive sentences and epithets, and certain rhymes are placed ready for use. The sketch in chalk is much admired by connoisseurs, by some as a muscular elbow, by others as a well developed knee.
