is no mention of Fire in the Hebrew Text, but that it is to be understood is plain from Deut. 18. 10. 2 King. 23. 10. Such a Cuftom obtained among the ancient Heathens; they made it a part of their Religion to burn fome of their Children as a Sacrifice to their falfe God, 2 Chron. 28.3. Fer. 7. 31. 19. g. Pf. 106. 37, 38. Molech: Called Act 7.43. Moloch; the name of an Idol which the Ammonites worshipped, 1 King. 11. 7. and otherwife called Milchom 2 King. 23. 13. It hath been thought to be the fame with the Planet Saturn, or elfe the Sun,which they worshipped; and Molech may indifferently relate to the Star or the Image: and Figure thereof, fer. 49. 3. Amos 5.36. It was a very principal Idol among the Heathen, and the Hebrew word implies Dominion and Kingly Superiority.

27. (For all thefe abominations, &c. As Abominations implies fuch things as have a a Moral turpitude,

filthiness and malignity antecedent to any pofitive Law, thefe words cannot extend to all the particulars mentioned from v. 7. but these words must referr to the fins mentioned, v. 20, 21,22,23. to which the words v. 24. feem partiv.24. cularly to referr. But the word Abomination is fometimes applied to thofe things which were forbid by a pofitive Law, and that were not antecedently evil, as in Levit. 11. 10, 20, 40, 41. Deut. 17. 1. And the practice of any of the things forbidden from v.7. might be reckoned as Abominations, especially to the Ifraelites (and Profelytes of Juftice) who were obliged to keep these Laws (see v. 26.) in the fenfe of that word.

CHA P. XIX.

The ARGUMENT.

Obedience to Parents is required, and obfervation of God's Sabbaths. Idolatry is forbidden. The Law of the Peace-offering. A remainder for the Poor out of the Harvest and Vintage. Theft, Fraud and Ferjury, Inhumanity, Unjustice and Tale-bearing are forbid; fo are Revenge and Hatred, and divers mixtures. Several other Laws, viz. Concerning the ufe of Bondwomen, planting Trees of Fruit, eating Blood, &c.

ND the LORD spake unto Mofes, Jay
