The Committee representing the Royal Society and the University of Sheffield appointed to administer the Sorby Research Fellowship Fund will proceed to the election of a Fellow early in November next. The object of the Fellowship is not to train men for original research, but to obtain advances in natural knowledge by enabling men of proved ability to devote themselves to research. The appointment will be for five years, subject to regulations, a copy of which may be obtained on application to the Royal Society. The emoluments of the Fellow will be £500 per annum. The Fellow elected will be expected to pursue his investigations at the University of Sheffield unless the nature of the investigation requires that the work should be done elsewhere; he will be expected to enter upon his duties as soon after election as possible.
