principles of pure religion, not of peculiar faith, the highest, most refined civilization. Religion commands mind to investigate with reverential duty, its position, and mot let the world plead in vain for necessary assistance.

She institutes all the proper offices of life. She requires all to treat the world courteously, but all must protect themselves against its machinations. Religion is that which unites the moral Universe, but any peculiar faith, Christianity, Judaism, or any, separates them wide apart, and renders them hostile Citizen of the world, think of these things. Let the world master the subject of Monotheism, and then it will see the full benefit of rational religion.

Religion teaches all the social, civil and individual duties, the filial and parental, and all the kindred relations. The obligation to poor relations, sisters and brothers, are paramount to empty monuments that last but for a time.

Religion is essential to the cause of the right faith, or view of God's facts. All the peculiar-faith bible people are squatters on the legitimate premises of religion. This great question of religion ought to be satisfactorily settled before the world, that bible bullies may no longer blackguard those who choose to think rightly. The world should see a speedy end to all the pretences of all peculiar faiths.

So great is the intrinsic capital of virtue and integrity, that the whole world affects them when not inherent; therefore the standard of religion establishes the position. Religion has ever shed its divine light more or less on mind, according to its cultivation.

No sect appropriates religion or its principles.

When we see human nature in its proper theatre, the trial of soul in matters of interest-absorbing transactions, then we can appreciate the character of the man whe suffers none to excel him in geod deeds, courtesy or peliteness, the result of enlightened and liberalized mind, that looks at truth all the time.

God immutable, immaculate and infinite, ever must regard such characters with due consideration. Religion counteracts the most evil, and renders the suppression the main object of greatest good, to the greatest number, the whole. The world then has to combat most effectually the capital sins of pride, envy, anger, voluptuousness, avarice, idleness, gluttony, ambition, if it seek that happiness of mind that best insures the happiness of soul.

Religion promotes excellence, and enlarges the intrinsic capacity to meet the facts and circumstances for a successful mastery, and turning to the best account of mind here, of the soul hereafter.

Religion teaches the world to abhor the degrading sophistry of peculiar faiths that sneak from all manly views that look to principles. She teaches mankind to faithfully claim that their soul exclusively belongs to God, the sole creator, that they will not betray, traitor-like, but do their duty to all, country, friends and family, and be above all meanness, even to its shadow.

Let the world be rid of the horrid iniquity, the false position, the degraded prostitu→ tion of sincerity before peculiar faiths, and resume the God-given religion.

Suppose all the time, means, and pains devoted to peculiar matters were properly, at once and forever, given to all that is religion and universal brotherhood, the world at once would be in a fair way to progress rightly, by rational education. Religion permits only the proper independent resentment for self-preservation, and all that must be in the absence of principles of one side or the other.

If a person acts untruthfully or dishonestly, surely religion will not passively permit him to prosper thus. Reformation to be potential in its comprehension, must soar to the influence of conservative revolution, as much above the attempt of a Luther, as that of rational religion is above the pretences of peculiar faith, as much above passive toleration as universal temperance is above partial drinking.

Religion teaches the world never to be identified with other peoples' weaknesses, errors, much less their crimes. Religion is God-gift to mind, and is inseparable therefrom. How is man to be a gentleman?

Will peculiar faith, that alienates mankind, perfect that character? Religion teaches all to remember, never forget at any time the refined courtesies of life. You cannot make religion out of peculiar faith, no matter how you fix it. Religion is the highest, fullest, most complete performance of duty to God and man, in its primitive purity. Let the conservative principle and soul of religion prevail all over the world, let it have full scope, to increase the beauty and loveliness of expansive Mind. Religion allows of no equivocation in regard to the equity of Justice; her advocates respect wise laws, order, honesty and truth. Hers is the abiding spirit of supreme Good.

The question arises, why not have mind to come up to the defence of property, without lock or law, as religion is for world-usefulness and correction? It is because

peculiar education perverts the mental organization, and holds the world in abeyance to it. Peculiar faith has usurped her rightful possession, and cuts up the world into fragments, whereas religion blends them all into harmonious universal brotherhood.

The highest of all rational codes is that of religion, that has no contracted sectional but broadest platforms. People should see their way clear under the highest code of religion, and be fearful of doing any thing wrong. The sovereign people should be now held responsible for the correct position of this whole matter. Get religion, say the peculiar faith priestocracy. But what was mind about previously? That is the great and vital question. The true secret of religion is the legitimate government of the passions. Religion tends to make perfect gentlemen, and the world most peaceable and friendly. The world cannot contend at all about religion.

Come, reader, let us have the mighty question of religion settled; it can be done certainly by the best of truthful and good faith, the best of faith decision.

Religion requires mankind to pay what they owe at the time and way, patriotism to their country, brotherhood to the world, religion, instead of peculiar faith, to their God, their highest parental, filial, conjugal and social duties. Religion is to make us most contented, happy and most extensively useful. Religion, the great law of nature and morality, is incompatible with peculiar faith doctrines of Jew or Gentile. The priestocracy talk of spiritualizing religion; that is the highest duty on this earth for individual, social, national and world morality. How will you like people of the world to be deceived, deluded out of the only practical part of true religion, for all the false pretences of peculiar faith and all its priestocracy? What are either of the last worth to you?

Religion is attractive and lovely, but peculiar faith is odious and contemptible. The mass of the people have mistaken peculiar faith for religion.

Gratitude is a great action due from man to God, and should be paid to mankind for the indebtedness to God. Citizen of the world, let us understand each other. If you are disinterested, and not the bigot of superstition and peculiar bible faith, then you must be a rational being, and if we both possess rational minds, we must agree on the rational principles of religion, the highest duty known to rational mind.

The whole world should seek the best and highest individual, social, national and world morals with religion to man and God. You ask for the purity of society, the chastity of your wife, the elevated justice of the world, the universal benefit of society? Then you should have acted all your part to promote such excellence, such exaltation. All this is pre-eminently embraced in the holy precincts of religion. Say what you will of this kind of government, and that kind of peculiar faith, still is there that highest Supreme Tribunal established in this earth, where a world's justice can be dispensed but with religion? None but pure religion can establish it. That spirit never yet has been instituted by all peculiar faiths, whose whole elements are not competent as they are not inherent.

Because one disbelieves in the peculiar faith bible, that so far from exempting any rational beings from duties, social and rational, obligates them more.

When the acts of nations become to be scanned as individuals by the world's tribunal, whose enlightened opinion will become appropriately potent, then morals and religion will take precedence as omnipotent agents for mind. To keep the world happy, at ease, contented, and in the progress of mind's light, is the part of religion, but peculiar faith seeks all it can for self, conspires and combines with despotic union for collusion to deceive, enslave and render mind benighted.

I give credit to all mankind for all the religion they do possess, and that is Monotheism, or Rational Religion. The right soul throughout the world can only be rightly maintained by rational religion. The world needs religion; it demands the action of the legitimate direction of all the holiest matters, also the exclusion of even the means of useless popular excitement in peculiar faith, the agitation of impracticable and hurtful world measures. Why do I come out so strongly? To adjust the whole rights of mind, religion as due the Creator, to whom the only exclusive reverence is due, all else is blasphemy, impiety, sacrilege. The world needs the great vital principle of religion. I know none but one religion, monotheism, one society, the universal brotherhood of civilized, refined mankind: all others are of the devices of man and will be finite. Religion rises equal to all the demands made upon it, whilst all peculiar faiths fall invariably below their dignity. Religion bestows universal and uniform protection to save the world from antagonisms the most. The great world questions to-day are not whether we can reach all at once the solution of the weighty matters to be accomplished, but whether we can progress in laying all proper foundations upon rational principles and no other.

Religion obliges men to do that which is right, to take the loftiest character and ac

Sion, without compulsion. She causes man to honor himself by advocating God's unity, all that is exclusively due it. Rationality connects us, with due appreciation of Deity. It is she that teaches us to duly estimate that adversity has made the world more virtuous. The religion of rational mind bids us put ourselves beyond the reach of vice. Can there be any improvements on truth and reason?

Religion comprehends all legitimate pleasures. But what has the laity to do with religion? Every thing, as universal property of mind.

But is it not the peculiar property of the priestocracy? That at once decides their claim not to be religion but peculiar faith, for religion is universal to rational minds.

The priestocracy may arrogate all their peculiar faiths as monopolies to themselves, but let them not diffuse one iota of such poison in popular minds.

Religion has permanent principles, that cannot be appropriated by any cliques or professions. All that pertains to religion must be immutable as principles.

The doctrine of peculiar faith, ever variable and changing, is a libel on religion. Confidence most rational binds us to the Great First Cause in genuine humility, and this constitutes rational religion to God, the supreme and universal standard, who is the author of principles for a universal guide. The God of nature is identified with nature, the rules of which are his immutable principles. The fixedness of principles is a guarantee, a bend of religion, between the Creator and the universe. Without such consecration of immutability, the whole would be subject to reckless contingencies and wrecks. What nonsense to forsake principles, that by religion bind all mankind to their Creator.

Atheism and polytheism are deficient in all this, for want of justice to the pure author of our existence. Religion as most philosophical, depends on the best science of rational principles, to become most rational.

She influences all rational minds, in ratio to their rationality and the appropriate rational education. If it were not so, why are those religious and good not possessing peculiar faith?

Nothing can obliterate religion from the universe. Let the mind be engulphed in all the horrors of barbarism, it will be impossible to keep it there, for the God of Religion indited it on man's soul for the noblest, most universal purposes. How often does much of the world affect that it does not concern them, to act their part in religion. Religion and its rightful state do concern the whole of mankind, and if carried properly and rationally out, would exclude all the equivocal state of morals, &c., growing out of its neglect by new doctrines and practices of spurious faith. If a man be of the right stamp, education, &c., all may be well. What an illustrious, noble theatre, had Washington, whose example will be honored the world's age. What an ignoble one had Moses and his priestocracy, to impose the deepest tricks upon the Jews for religion! The world needs religion, not Judaism nor any sectarianism, to exempt itself from crimes, faults and follies, that peculiar faith increases.

Let not superficial critics pretend that superstition and false faith were the only means to govern the ancients, when the God of mind gave the reverse as conservatives. The same might as well affirm that California gold mines had caused the world to sin, when it was the perversion of mind. Where was religion anterior to the institution of all peculiar faiths, Jew and others? Where it is now and has ever been, true representative of its author, God, supreme over all such pretences.

The Romanists pay more respect to saints, so miscalled, than they do to God, the effect of the vices of their peculiar faith. I seek to disabuse the public mind, and have all about religion right.

No peculiar faith or bibles, ministers, churches, or missionaries, one or all the aids employed, can begin to reach the main and vital question of religion, but they will mislead souls farther from the real and essential object. Dismiss all these as trash, and let the soul confide in all its deepest humility in its creator. Do you wish to be right? Then you wish not to be a bigot.

Religion is pre-eminent justice in the best of good faith, towards the God of the universe and man. It is most essential to know and premise what is religion, for the converse carries in its face fraud, untruth and dishonesty. The world has only very partially thought correctly on religion, as it has recklessly and heedlessly submitted to the mercenary speculations of an avaricious priestocracy. However it may have been duped for thousands of years by the advocates of the false position, it should not be ashamed to amend. Gratitude in all things is due from mind to its Creator, who is preeminently characterized by love, wisdom and perfection. The world has been too long injured and deceived, by peculiar bible sophists. The sooner mothers arrive at the most correct conclusion, the better for their offspring. They might linger for them in doubt and uncertainty, but for the universal care of the Universe Creator.

Religion is the consummation of correct knowledge and duty, to man and God. Principles are universal laws of nature, immutable and eternal, inviolable as equitable and just. Never violate principles.

Religion is one of the loveliest of matters, and the individual may feel all that he may expect to realize from rational actions and feelings. Religion governs minds, thoughts, words and deeds--is the only legitimate government adapted to mind's organization. She cannot vary, but has unity as principles that are universal. Religion calls for all the legitimate advancements of rational mind, the properly conducted unrestricted range of discussion on all apppropriate subjects that will advance mind to the right point. Churches should be public arenas for this purpose and nothing less, to hear all sides to secure the right one.. Religious fortitude can be defined, a firm maintenance of the best appreciation of the religion of principles. The question of religion is one of mind, that holds faith in abeyance to truth, and forever decides the world-wide agitation on rational principles, that of free agency. This consigns all pe-culiar faith people to non-existence.

What system then,

Mind in its legitimate element, when it is under principles. gives principles? Religion. We then have to investigate this superb, supreme, sublime subject, to reach the most legitimate conclusions..

Atheism allows mind to grope in the dark after a creator, and of course gives us none of his principles. Polytheism gives us false doctrines and positions, and both mere hopelessness. What is the difference between these two? That is of little consequence, for they are worthless. Of course all mind's circumstances the most elevated require the exercise of principles, and if mind be corrupted by peculiar education, it is most corrupted.

What a sacrilege are the peculiar faiths of polytheism entailing on minds. Being failures they permit it to run riot in vice and crimes, rather than concede the right instruction to monotheism. She teaches the true secret of life, to seek to be always satisfied, with the best the safest done. A virtuous life is the best insurance of happiness, especially in society that is so mixed as to excite distrust.

The progress of religion is arrested by the prejudiced bigotry of old exploded bibles that of course must be put down.

ANALYSIS OF MIND AND ITS FUNCTIONS RESUMED.

Mind, well constituted and organized, well balanced by appropriate cultivation, cam never surrender paramount principles essential to its vital enjoyment, or immortal action in more exalted spheres.

The due cultivation of mind is requisite to resist the fascinations of temptations, the deceits of sophistry, the various forms of superstition, and adhere knowingly to the protective benefits of rational rectitude.

Above all earthly considerations is the absolute necessity of mind eliciting the wisest national and self-governments, most ably sustained by the wisest legislation, to best effectually repel all malign dynasties.

Faith, reason, and truth, how recognised by mind? Faith is an act of the mind, to satisfy which we adopt the solution and test of reason to secure truth, by analysis and analogy.

It is impossible for it to be otherwise, from the very faculties with which we are endowed by the God of reason.

We cannot adopt faith on unreasonable testimony, as our minds are not so constituted to elicit truth.

All truthful faith must be sincerely embraced to be faithful to our highest rights, else the result is most hostile to our highest interest, misleading us into difficulties and dangers

The proper functions of truth and reason require faith to rest on rational and proper testimony.

Mind is for ever the analyst, self and free agent to proper attainment of its security by reason, of facts under its cognizance, or solution through analogy.

Faith is not for assumptions, fables, and legends, as our tyrants to enslave or terrify but the true friend of humanity on rational testimony to satisfy.

Faith never can go beyond reason-if so, then the richest functions of the mind are at an end.

Reason holds faith accountable and responsible to the functions of mind, else God never gave reason nor conservative principles to the universe, as they are useless if not appreciated by mind for its good.

It is impossible for faith to triumph over reason; the minor or less would then be superior to the major or greater, an absurdity and a blot on the assertor's mind, a libel on Deity and his best gifts, the foul blot of fanaticism and superstition.

As all faith comes through the mind, all bibles as trustworthy must be the bibles of mind, amenable to reason and philosophical principles.

All others are the bibles of miracles, prophecies, and mysteries, all of which are inconsistent with reason and truth, and cannot possibly arouse proper faith, suitable for free and intelligent minds.

All such bibles are the works of insidious masters, and not of soul-ennobling principles. No traditions of faith, ancient or modern, that are obsolete, obscure, or contradictory; partial in time and space, and peculiar in all; that appropriate phenomena of nature supernatural, unreasonable and unrecorded by God's works; peculiar endowments of mankind with prophecy limited to the exposure of science that explodes superstition; language misunderstood and liable to a multitude of misinterpretations, mistranslations and misconstructions; above all, mysterious of themselves, giving man's mysteries for God's elaborate and perfect wisdom: subject to contingency in hearing and excluding the constant monitor, an enlightened conscience, that teaches the perfection of the Almighty, whose noblest attribute is unity, from its highest duties of ever watching at the shrine of the soul, and substituting irresponsible proxies for hire and gain; holding up their best lights and examples as universal corruptors of the people, by broken faith, repudiation of honest debts, termination in idolatry, murder, theft, adultery, and hypocrisy; imposition of mortals, born and dead as mortals; speculating in impiety and blasphemy offered for immortals ;—can have a proper claim to confidence, or the sincere faith of mind endowed with reason, to supersede God-immortal and supreme over all, by the mere pretences of men !

The functions of mind are to secure reason, guide of rational religionists or monotheists, believers in the one living God, and his principles conservative to his creation. This position is absolutely necessary to exclude the demoralizing doctrines of atheism, that pretends to a universe without conservative principles, physically, morally, and religiously; also to exclude those of polytheism, or belief in any plurality of gods; which last doctrine must have various antagonistic or inefficient dogmas, with analogous appreciation of mind, all of which must finally be referred to the supremacy of the only Great First Cause of all, whose conservative principles are paramount to all; and certainly to exclude any system if indifferent to the conservation of legitimate, social and religious duties, relations, and virtues,

The doctrine or belief in any number of gods, infinite, trinity, or more than one God, is alike embraced in polytheism, all equally demoralizing and hostile to the unity, supreme rights and character of the Great First Cause, the sole creator of the universe, and by right of genius, the exclusive proprietor.

Any such faith necessarily introduces chaos and confusion into Deity's government, a vile usurpation on God's rights.

Such faith gives imposition to mind, and blasphemy unto Deity.

The conception of such impeaches mind and its best qualities.

The results of all such faith are proved by the history of the world to have been demoralizing, and productive of an immense train of corruption and evil.

Those who adopt such doctrine knowingly, present a corrupt doctrine of faith, not sustainable in any moral attributes of exalted social relations.

This confusion is plain in the world, from dreadful conflicts of false faith in all ages, acting on perverted mind, embittered by deadly feuds, animosities, strife, hatred, malice, injustice, reckless shedding of the blood of millions, sparing neither ages nor sex, outraging by exile and banishment; and exterminating with the most ferocious fanaticism, the most vindictive butchery, murders, tortures at the stake by fires, and the most savage warfare on rights, reputation, and mind.

The only remedy is through reason, representative of truth, that refers to the unity of the Great First Cause, and erects on this, the only foundation--the unity of one brotherhood of the world, for whose universal benefit and stock, universal principles have been given by the Creator.

Through man's life, from youth to matured age, what else protected him all the time but these very conservative principles, adequate to representatives of Deity? They were in existence from the foundation of the universe, that was chaos but for them, that silently and sublimely operate, physically and morally, and none but the Creator is the wiser, but through mind, his inspiration that recognises and performs what is necessary. The atheist denies the existence of a God, then he denies the principles of the universe, whose wisest organization utterly condemns him, and of his own vital existence · that he cannot violate without penalty.
