21st September, The Town-council ordained, and the Provost, Bailies, Deacons of Crafts, &c. subscribed the decree.

1. That every person who shall be admitted burgess and guild-brother fhall pay one hundred pounds Scots, if he has not served his apprenticeship, or married a burgess's daughter in her pure virginity, the one half to be uplifted by the Town-treasurer, and the other half by the Guild-treasurer.

2. Every person, who shall be admitted burgess only, shall pay to the town-treasurer forty pounds Scots, together with the dues formerly paid by the said burges and guild-brother to the guildrie.

3. Each tradesman's apprentice shall pay for his booking in the guild-book, forty shillings Scots to the guild-treasurer, having served five years from the date of his entry.

4. Producing his mafter's discharge of his indenture and apprenticeship, he shall be admitted burgess and guild-brother for payment of twenty pounds Scots, the one half to the town-treasurer, and the other half to the guild-treasurer, with the former dues.

5. Every tradesman to pay for his up-sett, four pounds Scots, to be divided equally betwixt the town and guildrie treasurers, and the town-treasurer is ordered to attend the admission of every burgess and guild-brother.

Declaration appointed to be signed by all Persons in public trust, conform to the Act of Parliament, dated 5th September, 1662.

"We, the Provost, Bailies, Dean of Guild, Treasurer, Council, and Deacons of Crafts of the burgh of Perth, under subscribing, sincerely affirm and declare, that we judge it unlawful in subjects, upon pretence of reformation, or other pretence whatsoever, to enter into leagues and covenants, or to take up arms against the King, or those commissioned by him; and that all these gatherings, convocations, petitions, protestations, and erecting and keeping council-tables, that were used in the beginning and for carrying on of the late troubles, were unlawful and seditious, and particularly that those oaths, whereof the one was called the National Covenant, as it was sworn and explained in the year 1638 and thereafter, and the other entituled a Solemn League and Covenant, were, and are in themselves, unlawful oaths, and were taken by and imposed upon the subjects of

this kingdom, against the fundamental laws and liberties of the same; and that there lieth no obligation upon us, or any of the subjects, from the said oaths, or either of them, to endeavour any change or alteration of the government, either in church or state, as it is now established by the laws of the kingdom."

The original subscriptions of the Magistrates and Town-council to the above declaration, remain in the records of the town at the year 1662..

George Robertson glover gave in a supplication tỏ the Council, desiring some consideration for a house without the Castle-gavel Port, which was burnt by order of the Council in 1645, for preventing the spreading of the plague in that place. The Council, considering that the said George Robertson is indebted to the town for 180 inerks, the remainder of the duty of the Castle-gavel Port for the year 1640, they unanimously agree to discharge him of that sum. 6th October, 1668.

The Magistrates made an agreement this year Robert Mylne of Balfargie, the King's master-mason, to rebuild the cross, which was taken away for building the citadel. Mr Mylne was ordered to build a cross as elegant as any in Scotland, for which he was to receive L. 200 Sterling.
