eftablishment, and muft remain until the end of the world, truly and fubftantially; and this Church is to be known by her four marks, One, Holy, Catholick and Apoftolick. At the fame time he was the most abandoned, idolatrous, damnable, prepofterous, perverted, abfurd and fallible. The following is the fum:

The Infallible Goodness

Is Infallible Badness
The Infallible Church

Is the Fallible Church;

The Catholick Church of Chrift
Is the Church of Anti-Chrift.

You obferve, take it at what point of view you please, the aspect is one.

You cannot injure the Church,

To attempt it, you display her fovereignty.
Luth. You must grant fhe is an idolatrous
Church.

Boy. If you can prove the idolatry.

Luth. She worships images, that is, fhe places the images of Chrift and his Saints in her Churches, and respects them, as we do the images of Mofes and Aaron, which are commonly placed, one on each fide the Ten Commandments, at the head of our Communion-Table; or as Mofes, Aaron, and the Children of Ifrael did the two images of Angels, at whofe feet Mofes placed the Ark and Ten Commandments, and where Mofes, and Aaron, and all the Children of Ifrael turned their faces when they prayed. Why, this is ftrange, that Mofes, a little before, broke the ftone tables, on which

Almighty God had wrote the Ten Commandments, becaufe when he came down from the mountain, he faw Aaron's calf, and the Children of Ifrael worshipping it, fhould now make two great images of Angels, and place the other Ta bles, the Almighty God had again writ his com mandments upon, at their feet; and this in the moft, holy place, where the glory of God was more immediately prefent, vifible to the great terror of Mofes and all the congregation; and what makes the matter more fingular, and puts us to fhame, is, that Almighty God ordered Mofes to make thefe two great Images or Angels, and place them for his MAJESTY to reft betwixt, and difplay his glory; this fhews plainly, that these great refplendent Images, fo richly ornamented and beautified, were more pleafing to his Divine Majefty, than the Ten Commandments, which were laid at their feet; and even the fecond, which we glory in (being of the Iconoclaft herely) was humbled even againft itself, greatly to the fhame and confufion of all us Iconoclafts, or Image breakers. ftrengthener, to corroborate the religious relpect to holy images, and that they by no means come within the intention of the Commandment, befides the images commanded by Almighty God to Mofes, the Angels and Serpent, he commanded David all thefe, and fhewed him a pattern or plan of the Temple and other matters relating, which Solomon compleated. Here were, as was ordered David, two great figures or images of Angels, to be placed in like fort, in the moft

facred and holy place; and thefe very Commandments, with even the Ark and its contents, ordered again in the fame low and humiliating pofture, at the Image's feet; and confirm, what we call Image-worship, the Glory of God, refplendently and glorioufly, moft vifibly refted, as in the Tabernacle refted, betwixt this monstrous large, rich, great, grand, refplendent and lovely Images, all bedaubed, neatly covered, and decorated with gold and moft precious ornaments. We agreed, a few days paft, that Church-images are to be venerated, and held in the fame degree of elteem, as the Scriptures and other holy things that have relation to our divine religion. Where is the Chriftian, when the name Jefus is pronounced, that will not bow? It is not the found that the refpect is paid to, but to Jefus our Lord and God. Upon this ground I pronounce him a Reprobate and Pagan, who dare call Chril tian Tmages, or any other matter to excite devotion to the honour of Chrift, Idolatry,

Boy, You Lutherans and Church of England, charging holy images and pictures, fed, and have been, fince the commencement of Chriffianily, to excite devotion, by the odious name of idolatry, have given given the Calviniffs great power over yourselves, as you retain the fame idolatry as you term it, yourfelves; Mofes and Aaron your fupporters on each fide the Com mandments, at the head of your Communiontable. Look into Look into Weftminler-Abbey, and Bible, Common-Prayer Book, or where can you place your eyes, but you will fall upon toine

image or picture? However, you are fatisfied, images do not contribute to make the Pope Antichrift, or the Church the Whore of Babylon.

Luth. As you obferve, we condemn ourselves, in charging holy images as infamous. There is a moft heavy accufation against the Church of Rome, what Proteftants ftigmatize with the execrable application of fpiritual idolatry, which is the word Tranfubftantiation, which is changing a breaden wafer, and a little wine and water, into our Lord Jefus Chrift, when a Popish Pricft is pleafed to ufe our Divine Lord's words, when he confecrated the bread and wine, at his laft fupper, into his most precious body and blood, and fed his Apoftles, commanding them, and confequently their fucceffors, the Priefthood, to do the fame. This most adorable facrament is fet down in the different Gofpels, Matthew, Mark and Luke, not in figure and faith only, but as our Father Luther well obferves, really, truly and fubftantially. Our Saviour's words, as the fame Father has it, is exprefs, and admits no doubt; therefore, the man that doubts is damned. He curfed feveral, particularly the Calvinifts, that doubted. Our Lord, in the 6th chapter of St. John, declares, that he is really in the Bleffed Sacrament; and St Paul, in the aft of Corinthians, declares, be received of our Lord, that the night he was betrayed, ordained this facrament in the words mentioned in the Gofpels. He then fays, Whofoever thall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of

the Lord unworthily, fhall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord; for he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not difcerning the body of the Lord. Thefe are thunder-bolts in favour of the Pope, which we dare not gain-fay or contradia.

Boy. If I miftake not, your Clergy are com pelled to take an oath, before your admittance, to this purpofe: That you will conform to the Liturgy of the Church of England, as it is now by law established; that is, the full contents of the Common Prayer Book, according to the time being.

Luth. No doubt, without this precaution, fome invaders, Papifts or Calvinifts, might, as occa fions ferved, rob the rightful heirs of their patrimony.

Boy. You hold it criminal to be forefworn. Luth. Rafcals without principle or religion. Boy. What fays your Common Prayer Book? What explanation on the Sacrament of the Supper?

Luth. Here it is. The Body and Blood of Chrift, which are VERILY and INDEED taken and received by the Faithful in the Lord's Sup per. Here is Tranfubftantiation confirmed by our Catechifm. I therefore, with my Church, and all true Chriftians, excommunicate and curfe Calvinifm, Paganifm, Heathenifm, Infidelity, Abfurdity, Contrariety, Inconfiftency, Irregula rity, Peftiferous, Malignancy, Rebellious, Athe itical, and all the Gain-fayers, of what tribe of
