Boy. Pray what do you infer from this prophecy.

Mofes. A positive injunction, enjoined by the great legislator, and express order of the Alinighty God; therefore of equal weight and authority with the other commandments.

Boy. It will be the most eligible method for to discuss each article befire we proceed to another; we will recurn to our first. The Divinity, the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Mofes. Here o Ifrael, the Lord your God is one God; I cannot therefore admit the plural; but muit, as Israel ever have done, confess the fingular number in God. The Spirit of God distinctly expressed, favours chriftianity, but a single verle must favour some other meaning, and give the precedency to the commandment.

Boy. This revelation of the most transcend. ing mystery, the knowledge of which will remove the partition wall or rock of offence, that separate's lfrael from christianity, inust not he pailed over; you will therefore give your ex

Moses. The mystery of the Divinity is infinite, therefore cannot be brought within the fuperficial knowledge of the creature ; it would therefore be proper to discuss some other article, which may explain by degrees, and remove seeming irreconcileable texts.

Boy. The divinity is the ground and basis of the two covenanis ; until this fundamental and prime article is reconciled, the two covenants never will be brought to agreement.

Mofes. My desire is truth; but, touching this tremenduous mystery, my nature recoils, and shrinks into my base nothingness; my soul as an outcast is filled with horror; I dread the thought.

Boy. It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God; this is scripture, and it is to avoid this dreadful catastrophe that we meet this day, and it is with confidence I embrace this conference purely, as I have no other will but to be directed by the divine mercy, and · that his truth may appear; I will therefore proceed with the ist chapter of Genesis. The Spirit of God moved upon the face of the deep ; and God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness.

Mofes. Almighty God speaks in this chapter, both in the fingular and plural number; it will be proper to proceed in order, to affist ourselves with proper lights, by proceeding next to the article of the Mefliah.


Boy. The 3d. chapter of Genesis. The Al. mighty promises redemption to man after his fall, by the Messiah: it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Mofes. Satan with his association, after their fall, perceiving the creation of man was to replace and fill their vacant seats, plotted their fall, and bring them upon a level with themselves ; to obtain their purpose, Satan assumes, or enters into a serpent, by which stratagem decoyed Eve to a breach of her duty, and abuse of free will. Adam falling into the same act of disobedience, entailed an everlasting curse on their posterity; for the offence was not against the creature, which would have been in their power to have made restitution : but it was in open violation to the immediate commandment of the Creator, which rendered it needful to have a Meffiah to reconcile chem; and this reconcilement is promised to the whole stock of Adam that will accept this grace, and join Israel under the banner of their king. · Boy. We will confine ourselves without variation in the search of your Messiah; you grand his appearing necessary for the reconcilement of man to his Creator ; you also grant the promise is to the whole stock of Adam.

Mofes. All what you assert, I agree to, but with this singular privilege to Israel, that he will be Aesh of our Aesh, and bone of our bone, and that he will be born of the stock of David, and inherit his throne; and that Israel will polfess every blessing under him according to the prophecies.

Boy Dov. We have agreed above, that the Melah is promised in ire 3d chapter of Genesis, to reconcile the creature man to his God; we have alfi) in our last conference arred from what are there fet down ; from the 15th, 17th, 22d chapters of Genefis, that A mohcy God made a covenant with Abraham, and promised the Merfidh fhould be of his feed, by whom all nations of the earch should be blested. We will now fee the same promise renewed to Ifiac in the 26th chapter of the fame book; and the Lord appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I jihall tell thee of; fjourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will blefs thre; for unto thee and thu feed I will give ali thefe countries, and I will perforin ibe eath which I ware unto Abrabam thy father; and I will make thy seed to multiply as the fiars of IFeaven, and I will give unto ily feed all these Kerntries; and in thy feed fall ail the nations of the earth be ileted. Again the blelling is repeated and promised to Jacob in the 28ih chapter, as we took notice in our last conference. I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac : the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy feed; and thy feed mall be as the dust of the earth, and shall Spread abroad to the West, and to the East, and to the North, and to the South; and in thee, and in thy feed Shall all the families of the earth be bleflet. in the 49th chapier, ifrael's blessing to Judah prophetically poinis out that the Mefish should be of that cribe ; and marks out his coming. And the Lord God said unto me, “I will raise them up a prophet fron among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth, and he Thall speak into them all that I shall command him: and it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of hiin.” It is to be observed, Almighty God established his covenant with Abraham 600 years before the law or legislation of Moses; neither do we observe any mension of ic until it was enjoined in the wilderness.
