Of Mackenzie's principal work, the Man of Feeling, there have been published many and various editions. The first was anonymous, in 1771. Its sequel, the Man of the World, appeared soon

after.

Mackenzie was one of the first to cultivate German Literature, and in 1791 published translations of Lessing's Set of

MACKNIGHT, James,D.D. A Harmony of the four Gospels; in which the natural Order of each is preserved. Lond. 1756, 4to.

Dr. Macknight closely adheres to the principle of Osiander; but his paraphrase and commentary contain so much useful information, that his Harmony has long been regarded as a standard book among divines. The preliminary dissertations are highly valuable. Bishop Marsh says, that whoever makes use of this Harmony should compare with it Dr. N. Lardner's observations, which were first published in 1764, (reprinted in Dr. Kippis's edition of his works, vol. 11).-Second edition,, corrected and greatly enlarged, Lond.
