JOHN RUSKIN; ASPECTS OF HIS THOUGHT AND TEACHINGS. BY EDMUND J. BAILLIE (MEMBER OF THE RUSKIN SOCIETY). LONDON: JOHN PEARCE, "DR. JOHNSON'S HOUSE,” ORPINGTON: GEORGE ALLEN, "SUNNYSIDE." 1882. 1-38 PREFACE. THE following Papers are reprinted from "HOUSE AND HOME," in which Journal they appeared during the first months of the present year. They are intended to serve as an introduction to the study of Mr. RUSKIN's works. I have tried to show, on the surface, what beauties may be found in the depths. The task has been, to me, a “labour of love"; my only difficulty that of selecting from such a wide field of truth and beauty those passages best suited for the present purpose. EDMUND J. BAILLIE.
