ausgegeben worden, und gehören zu denen, von welchen er in dem vorhin genannten Avertissement sagt: Il y a trentecinq ans que je publiai pour la première fois une methode du blason, qui s'est imprimée plusieurs fois, et qui a été imitée ou contrefaite en plus de cinq ou six éditions faites par des plagiaires et par des personnes peu intelligentes des principes de cet art. — Ein Verzeichniß der hieher gehörigen Schriften, welche er herausgeben wollte, die aber nicht alle erschienen sind, giebt er selbst in dem aduis aux lecteurs in seinem l'Art du blason ou l'origine des armoiries in folgender Art: C'est icy la première partie du grand traité du blason, que j'avois promis depuis si long-temps. Il contient l'origine des armoiries, c'est à dire, des pieces essentielles dont le blason est composé, des émaux et des figures. La seconde partie contiendra l'origine de tous les ornemens qui accompagnent ces figures et ces couleurs. La troisiéme sera de la pratique de six siecles à l'égard des armoiries, et de toutes les nations de l'Europe qui ont receu l'art du blason. La quatriéme, la pratique pour toutes les dignitez, tant ecclesiastiqués que séculieres et militaires que civiles. La cinquième, des divers usages auxquels les armoiries sont employées,, avec les manieres dont il faut. s'en servir en ces occasions. La sixième, contiendra les recherches curieuses du blason. La septieme, les preuves de noblesse, avec les manieres de dresser les quatre, huit, seize, trentedeux et soixante quatre qartiers. La huictiéme, sera un recueil d'armoiries de divers pais. La neuviéme, une bibliotheque de tous les autheurs qui ont écrit du blason, des armoiries et des généalogies. La dixième, une methode exacte et complete de tout l'art du blason, avec l'explication et l'usage de tous les termes. Unter diesen betrachtet er die beiden ersten Theile als ein zusammenhangendes Ganzes, indem es auf dem Inhaltver zeichnisse der Schrift Origine des ornemens des armoiries heißt: Table des matieres contenues dans ce sesond volume des origines du blason. Von dem abrégé méthodique führt M. 617 eine einzige Ausgabe und zwar Paris 1673. 8. an, ob richtig oder nicht, stehet dahîn.

Wood, dem Dallaway S. 343 folgt, ist Morgan ein erborgter Name, und der des wirklichen Verfassers, Waterhouse; allein Moule S. 186 meint, daß Waterhouse dem Morgan bloß behilflich gewesen sei und ihm vielleicht ganze Stücke zu dem Werke geliefert habe. Uebrigens ist dasselbe dem von M. angegebenen Inhalte nach mehr ein Wappenbuch als eine Lehrschrift. Das Werk ist übrigens selten vollständig, und wird der vielen Kupferstiche wegen, meistens von R. Gaywood, einem Schüler Hollar's, andere von J. Goddard und Vaughan, gewöhnlich mit 8-10 L. bezahlt. Lo. III, 1297 giebt indeß nur Preise an zu 1 L. 13 S. - 2 L. 5 S. -4 L. 14 S. 6 D. und auf großem Papiere 8 L. 12 S.10 L. Als eine Ergänzung dieses Werkes ist desselben Ber faffers Armilogia (Nr. 374) zu betrachten.

Bo. führt eine Ausgabe London 1693. f. plates als selten an, für die er 11 L. ansett. Weil der Mangel eines Registers den Gebrauch dieses Buches erschwerte, so wurde dem neuerlich durch einen Index of the names of persons contained in the academy of armory and blazon, by Randle Holme. Das Werk enthält übrigens ein Allerlei und soll eine Art von Encyclopädie sein.
