Maitland, S. R. False Worship; an Essay, 1856. Bound up with Superstition and Science; an Essay, 1855. In 1 vol. 12mo.

In the 1st Essay, it is critically argued from texts of Holy Scripture, that Falseworship took its rise after the Flood; from a curiosity after knowledge which "the Creator had not granted to Man;" which, however, Men hoped to gain by religious addresses to "inferior Spirits" of whose Fall they were aware even, before the Flood, "the Sons of God having taken wives of the Daughters of Men."

In the 2nd Essay, "the Cause" of contemporary Spiritual Manifestations is considered, without its being determined; only it is concluded, "that we should not deal with" [the facts,] separate from Religion.
