Charities.

HYMN CV. C. M.

1 GOD, our Father, send thy grace
All-powerful from above,

To form in our obedient souls
The image of thy love.

2 Whene'er the helpless sons of grief
In low distress are laid,

Soft be our hearts their pains to feel,
And swift our hands to aid.

3 So Jesus look'd on dying men,
Enthron'd above the skies,

And when He saw their lost estate,
Felt his compassion rise.

4 Since Christ to save our guilty souls
On wings of mercy flew,

We, whom the Saviour thus hath lov'd,
Should love each other too.

HYMN CVI. L. M.

REAT God! thy pow'r what tongue can tell? What force thy sov'reign word withstand? Yet Thou dost stoop with men to dwell,

And give thy blessings through their hand. 2 'Tis ours to feed these lambs of thine, And train their footsteps on to heaven; We hail with joy the charge divine, And freely give as Thou hast given. 3 O fount of love, all gracious God! What can we offer but thine own? For we are thine, redeem'd with blood, The precious blood of Christ thy Son!

4 On these, on us, thy grace bestow, The contrite heart, the lowly mind, The love of God in Christ to know,

The wisdom from above to find : 5 Defend us from the power of sin;

Save us from all self-righteous pride: Our sure support, thy peace within ; Our only plea, that Christ hath died.

HYMN CVII. C. M.

SAVIOUR, on thy glorious throne
Exalted Thou dost shine;

What can we render unto Thee,
When all the worlds are thine?

2 But Thou hast brethren here below
Partakers of thy grace,

Whose humble names Thou wilt confess
Before thy Father's face.

3 In them Thou may'st be cloth'd and fed, And visited, and cheer'd;

And in their accents of distress
The Saviour's voice is heard.

4 Thyself, with gratitude and love,
We in thy poor would see;
O let us joyfully return

1

What we receive from thee.

HYMN CVIII. L. M.

JESUS, around whose brow divine

Beams of eternal mercy shine,

Look from thy heav'nly throne above;
Shed in our hearts thy sacred love.

2 When on the cross the crimson tide
Flow'd from thy hands, thy feet, thy side;
Each drop with tender mercy flow'd,
Each drop display'd the love of God.
3 Warm'd by thy love, O may we show
Love to the helpless sons of woe;
Bid the sad tear of sorrow cease,
And to the weary whisper peace.

4 Lord, may the poor thy Gospel know,
Where streams of consolation flow;

1

To those who mourn, sweet peace impart,
And cheer, O Lord, th' afflicted heart.

HYMN CIX. C. M.

HEPHERD of Israel, from above
Thy feeble flock behold,

And let them never lose thy love,
Nor wander from thy fold.

2 They want thy help, for they are frail,
Thy light, for they are blind;
Let grace o'er all their doubts prevail,
To prove that Thou art kind.

3 Teach them the things they ought to know And may they find them true,

And still in stature as they grow

Increase in wisdom too.

4 Guide them through life, and when at last They enter into rest,

Thy tender arms around them cast,

And fold them to thy breast.

Baptism.

HYMN CX. C. M.

JESUS, we lift our souls to Thee,
Thy Holy Spirit breathe,

And let these little infants be
Baptiz'd into thy death.

2 O let thy Spirit on them rest,

Thy

grace their souls renew,

And write within each tender breast
Thy name and nature too.

3 If thou should'st quickly end their days,
Their place with Thee prepare;
Or if thou lengthen out their race,
Continue still thy care.

4 Lord, plant us all into thy death,
That we thy life may prove;
Partakers of thy cross beneath,
And of thy crown above.

Before Confirmation.

HYMN CXI. L. M.

LOOK down, O Lord, and on our youth
Bestow the gift of heav'nly grace,

And let the seed of sacred truth
Find in each heart a fruitful place.
2 When they appear before thy sight,
Their vow and promise to renew,
Prepare them for the solemn rite,
Bid each his heart and life review.
3 The cross that mark'd their infant brow,
May it a faithful emblem prove,

That they shall keep that sacred vow,
And walk as children of thy love.

4 Thy sons and daughters may they be, Confirm'd and strengthen'd by thy grace, And safe, through life preserv'd by Thee, In heaven behold Thee face to face.

HYMN CXII. L. M.

I WHILE others strive and hope in vain,

Bound to the world, and slaves to sin,

A nobler toil may I sustain,

A heav'nly crown and treasure win. 2 May I resolve with all my heart, With all my powers, to serve the Lord; Nor ever from his law depart,

Whose service is a rich reward.
3 Be this the purpose of my soul,
My solemn, fix'd, determin'd choice,
To yield to his supreme control,
And in his kind commands rejoice.
4 O may I never faint or tire,

Nor wand'ring leave his sacred ways:
Great God! accept my heart's desire,
And let my life declare thy praise.

After Confirmation.

HYMN CXIII. L. M.

HAPPY day that fix'd my choice On Thee, my Saviour and my God; Well may this glowing heart rejoice. And tell its raptures all abroad. 2 O happy bond that seals my vows To Him who merits all my love; I'll praise Him in his sacred house, And gladly to his altar move.
