194. C. M. Dr. Watts.

The Invitation of the Gospel. Isa. lv. 1, &e.

1 ET ev'ry mortal ear attend,
And ev'ry heart rejoice;

The trumpet of the gospel sounds
With an inviting voice.

2 Ho! all ye hungry starving souls
That feed upon the wind,
And vainly strive with earthly toys
To fill an empty mind.
3 Eternal wisdom has prepar'd
A soul-reviving feast,

And bids your longing appetites
The rich provision taste.

4 Ho! ye that pant for living streams,
And pine away and die;

Here you may quench your raging thirst
With springs that never dry.

5 Rivers of love and mercy here
In a rich ocean join;

Salvation in abundance flows

Like floods of milk and wine.

o Dear God! the treasures of thy love
Are everlasting mines,

Deep as our helpless mis'ries are,
And boundless as our sins!

7 The happy gates of gospel grace
Stand open night and day:
Come, sinners, here receive supplics
And drive your wants away!

Weary Souls invited to rest. Matt. xi. 28.

1

COME, weary souls, with sin distrest,

Come and accept the promis'd rest;
The Saviour's gracious calf obey,

And cast your gloomy fears away.
2 Oppress'd with guilt, a painful load,
O come, and spread your woes abroad!
Divine compassion, mighty love,
Will all the painful load remove,

3 Here mercy's boundless ocean flows,
To cleanse your guilt, and ease your woes;
Pardon and life, and endless peace!
How rich the gift! how free the grace!
4 Lord, we accept with thankful heart,
The hope thy gracious words impart;
We come with trembling, yet rejoice,
And bless the kind inviting voice.
5 Dear Saviour, let thy pow'rful love
Confirm our faith, our fears remove;
And sweetly influence every breast,
And guide us to eternal rest!

The Saviour's Invitation. John vii. 37.

THE Saviour calls-let ev'ry ear
Attend the heav'nly sound;

Ye doubting souls dismiss your fear,
Hope smiles reviving round.

For ev'ry thirsty, longing heart,

Here streams of bounty flow,

And life, and health, and bliss impart
To banish mortal woe.

Ye sinners come, 'tis mercy's voice
The gracious call obey;
Mercy invites to heav'nly

And can you yet delay joys

4 Dear Saviour, draw reluctant hearts,
To thee let sinners fly.

And take the bliss thy love imparts,
And drink, and never die.

1 BLOW ye the trumpet, blow;

The joyful solemn sound,

Let all the nations know,
To earth's remotest bound,

The year of jubilee is corne:
Return, ye ransom'd sinners, home!

The gospel trumpet hear,
The news of heav'nly grace;
Ye happy souls draw near,
Behold your Saviour's face:
The year of jubilee, &c.
Jesus, our great high priest,
A sacrifice was made:
Ye weary spirits rest,

Ye mourning souls be glad;
The year of jubilee, &c.
Ye slaves of sin and hell,
Your liberty receive:
Secure in Jesus dwell,
And on his fulness live;
The year of jubilee, &c.
Extol the Lamb of God,

The great atoning Lamb:
Redemption in his blood

Throughout the World proclaim:
The year of jubilee, &c.

Good Tidings.

Jesus, our Lord,
Thy name be ador'd,

For all the rich blessings convev'd thro' thy word. The Ancient of Days

His glory displays,

And shines on his servants with cherishing rays!

2

The trumpet of God

Is sounding abroad

The language of mercy, salvation through blood. Thrice happy are they

Who hear and obey,

And share in the blessings of this gospel day!
3 This blessing be mine,
Through favour divine;

But, O my Redeemer, the glory be thine!
The work is of grace,

Thine, thine be the praise,

And nine to adore thee, and tell of thy ways.

The Gospel Jubilee. Psalm lxxxix. 15.

OUD let the tuneful trumpet sound,,
And spread the joyful tidings round,
Let every soul with transport hear,
And hail the Lord's accepted year.
2 Ye debtors, whom he gives to know,
That you ten thousand talents owe,
When humble at his feet you fall,
Your gracious Lord forgives them all.
3 Slaves that have borne the heavy chain
Of sin and hell's tyrannic reign,
To liberty assert your claim,

And urge the great Redeemer's name.
4 The rich inheritance of heav'n,
Through Jesus Christ, is freely giv❜n:
Fair Salem your arrival waits,
With golden streets and pearly gates.
5 Her blest inhabitants no more,
Bondage and poverty deplore;
No debt, but love immensely great,
And joy still rises with the debt.

6 O happy souls that know the sound!
Celestial light their steps surround!
And show that jubilee begun,
Which through eternal years shall run.

Salvation for the Chief of Sinners through Faith 1 Tim. i, 15. Acts xvi. 31.

1 HOW cheering is the gospel sound!

Salvation free in Jesu's name!
In Jesu's blood redemption found!

Look, sinners, to the slaughter'd Lamb!
Look to his all-átoning death!

Look and be sav'd from endless wrath! 2 Come, O my guilty brethren, come, Groaning beneath your load of sin;

I

His bleeding heart shall make you room;
His open' arms shall take you in.
He calls you now, invites you home;
Come, O my guilty brethren, come!
3 For you the purple current flow'd,

From his dear wounds and bleeding side;
Languish'd for you the Son of God,
For you the Prince of Glory dy'd.
Believe; and all your sin's forgiv'n
Believe; and you are heirs of heav'n.

God beseeching Sinners to be reconciled to
Him. 2 Cor. v. 20.

1 HARK how the gospel-trumpet sounds!
Tis a delightful voice:
"Pris'ners of death, no longer groan:
'Ye broken hearts, rejoice.'
2 Pardon to sinners is proclaim'd,
By their affronted God;
'Tis God beseeches to accept,
Peace made by Jesu's blood.

3 What answer, Lord, shall we return
To this stupendous grace?

Shall the Most High, eternal bliss,
Beseech a ruin'd race?

4 When vengeance might have crush'd to death, The poor rebellious worms,

The God of Love proposes peace

In most alluring forms.

5 What heart such kindness can resist, Or spurn such wondrous grace?

1

Come, sinners, hear your Maker's voice,
And take, in heaven, your place!
