WELCOME TO SPRING. I'm very glad the Spring is come, The young grass looks so fresh and green, And I can skip and run about There's not a cloud upon the sky, God must be very good indeed, Write and Spell Spring has come. In our country we can walk about in the fields or lie down to sleep at night without fear of wild beasts. But in other countries, where many of our friends may be living, there are savage lions and tigers that leap out of the bushes, and carry off men, women, or children. To frighten them away at night, large fires of wood are lit, to which the travellers lie close. Wild animals dread fire, and will not come near it, unless they are very hungry. The lion you see in the picture was going to carry away a poor little boy just seven years of age, but the brave mother rushed forward with a wild cry, and the lion ran away. Well done, brave mother! Write and Spell What are Willie and Mary looking at with such pleasure? They are reading their new book, called the First Victoria Reader, which they got to-day. Some time ago their teacher told them how pleasant it would be when they could read the nice stories in it. They worked hard at their lessons every night, helping each other, like kind children, and now they have been rewarded by getting the new book. The story of The Three Bears is very funny. Make haste and learn your lessons quickly, and then you will be able to read it. Write and spell Queen Victoria |
