8th P. M. 87, 87, 47.

Heavenly joy anticipated.

thy name, O Lord, assembling,

Teach us to rejoice with trembling;
Speak, and let thy servants hear:
Hear with meekness,-

Hear thy word with godly fear.

2 While our days on earth are lengthen'd,
May we give them, Lord, to thee:
Cheer'd by hope, and daily strengthen'd,
May we run, nor weary be;

Till thy glory

Without cloud in heaven we see.

3 There, in worship purer, sweeter, All thy people shall adore; Sharing then in rapture greater Than they could conceive before: Full enjoyment,

Full and pure, forever more.

1st P. M. 6 lines 88.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Sabaoth.

INFINITE God, to thee we raise

Our hearts in solemn songs of praise;
By all thy works on earth adored,
We worship thee, the common Lord;
The everlasting Father own,

And bow our souls before thy throne.
2 Thee all the choir of angels sings,
The Lord of hosts, the King of kings;
Cherubs proclaim thy praise aloud,
And seraphs shout the triune God;
And Holy, holy, holy, cry,
Thy glory fills both earth and sky.

3 Father of endless majesty,
All might and love we render thee;
Thy true and only Son adore,
The same in dignity and power;
And God the Holy Ghost declare,
The saints' eternal Comforter.

5th P. M. 4 lines 7s.

The Lord our righteousness.

thy presence we appear;
Lord! we love to worship here,
When, within the veil, we meet
Thee upon thy mercy-seat.

2 While thy glorious Name is sung,
Touch our lips, and loose our tongue;
Then our joyful souls shall bless
Thee, the Lord our righteousness.

3 While to thee our prayers ascend,
Let thine ear in love attend;
Hear, for Jesus intercedes;
Hear us, for thy Spirit pleads.

4/ While thy word is heard with awe,
And we tremble at thy law,

Let thy Gospel's wondrous love
Every doubt and fear remove.

5 While thy ministers proclaim
Peace and pardon through thy name,
In their voices let us own
Jesus, speaking from the throne.

6 From thy house when we return,
Let our hearts within us burn;
That at evening we may say,
We have walk'd with God to-day.

Universal adoration.

HOLY, holy, holy Lord!

L. M.

Thou God of hosts, by all adored: The earth and heavens are full of thee, Thy light, thy power, thy majesty. 2 Loud hallelujahs to thy Name, Angels and seraphim proclaim: By all the powers and thrones in heaven, Eternal praise to thee is given.

3 Apostles join the glorious throng, And swell the loud triumphant song: Prophets and martyrs hear the sound, And spread the hallelujah round. 4 Glory to thee,

God most high!

Father, we praise thy majesty:
The Son, the Spirit, we adore;
One Godhead, blest forever more.

The sacrifice of praise.
TTH joy we lift our eyes

S. M.

above,

That glorious temple in the skies,
Where dwells eternal Love.

2 Before thy throne we bow,
O thou almighty King;
Here we present the solemn vow,
And hymns of praise we sing.
3 While in thy house we kneel,
With trust and holy fear,
Thy mercy and thy truth reveal,
And lend a gracious ear.
4 Lord, teach our hearts to pray,
And tune our lips to sing;
Nor from thy presence cast away
The sacrifice we bring.

The Desire of all nations.

C. M.

COME, thou Desire of all thy saints,

Our humble strains attend,

While, with our praises and complaints,
Low at thy feet we bend.

2 How should our songs, like those above,
With warm devotion rise;

How should our souls, on wings of love,
Mount upward to the skies.

3 Come, Lord, thy love alone can raise
In us the heavenly flame;

49

A

Then shall our lips resound thy praise,
Our hearts adore thy name.

4 Now, Saviour, let thy glory shine,
And fill thy dwellings here,
Till life, and love, and joy divine,
A heaven on earth appear.

5 Then shall our hearts enraptured say,—
Come, great Redeemer, come,

And bring the bright, the glorious day,
That calls thy children home.

13th P. M. 10 10, 11 11.

Peace, power, and love.

LL thanks to the Lamb, who gives us to meet: His love we proclaim, his praises repeat: We own him our Jesus, continually near, To pardon and bless us, and perfect us here. 2 In him we have peace, in him we have power, Preserved by his grace throughout the dark hour; In all our temptation he keeps us, to prove His utmost salvation, his fulness of love.

3 Pronounce the glad word, and bid us be free: Ah! hast thou not, Lord, a blessing for me? The peace thou hast given, this moment impart, And open thy heaven, O Love, in my heart.

Infinite grace.

[NFINITE excellence is thine,

I Thou glorious Prince of grace!

Thy uncreated beauties shine
With never-fading rays.

C. M.

2 Sinners, from earth's remotest end,
Come bending at thy feet;

To thee their prayers and songs ascend,
In thee their wishes meet.
3 Millions of happy spirits live
On thy exhaustless store;
From thee they all their bliss receive,
And still thou givest more.

4 Thou art their triumph and their joy;
They find their all in thee;

Thy glories will their tongues employ
Through all eternity.

51

The great and effectual door.

JESUS, thou all-redeeming Lord,
Thy blessing we implore;
Open the door to preach thy word,
The great, effectual door.

C. M.

2 Gather the outcasts in, and save From sin and Satan's power; And let them now acceptance have, And know their gracious hour. 3 Lover of souls! thou know'st to prize What thou hast bought so dear: Come, then, and in thy people's eyes With all thy wounds appear. 4 Appear, as when of old confess'd, The suff'ring Son of God; And let us see thee in thy vest, But newly dipp'd in blood.
