PREFACE. OUT of respect for his friend, Mr. A. J. PARKER, who was prevented by absence abroad from himself undertaking the task, the present Editor consented to superintend a fresh issue of this little work. In looking through its pages, he has made some changes suggested by recent legislation or alterations in the current practice, and has added some notes, where he thought them likely to be of assistance. He has sometimes, on points connected with Real Property Law, referred to a book written by himself: not, as he trusts, from any overweening opinion of its merits, but because it happened to be the only one with which he was acquainted, and he had not sufficient leisure to make himself acquainted with the others. Lastly, he hopes that his youthful readers may derive some benefit from his Introductory Essay.
