PREFACE. In the following work it has been the endeavor to put the science of Arithmetic on a sound basis, and to give clear and complete explanations of all the fundamental principles and processes. It has not been the aim to introduce novelties, but to promote accuracy and clearness of conception, so as to make the study of Arithmetic not only of practical utility, but also of great educational value.
