PREFACE.

In placing this book before the reading public, we wish it understood that politics does not enter into its make-up and the only question at issue is, "Does the use of spirituous or malt liquors, improve or destroy my ability to lead a clean life?”

The author has gone through all phases of the so-called "good fellow" experiences, and is in a position to unqualifiedly answer that the use of strong drink is a curse to humanity; is largely responsible for most of the crime committed; filling our jails and penitentiaries with inmates, both male and female, sent there through the fact that they did not resist the first drink.

The good-fellowship spirit is so deeply imbued in the American personality that it takes a strong will to refuse the social glass, and the sooner we learn to say "no" to the tempter, the sooner will that time come when the dram-shop keeper will abandon his calling, and seek fields of industry that will be of advantage to all, instead of a detriment, as he now is.

We have no quarrel with the dram-shop keeper, but merely offer the above argument for the consideration of those who perhaps otherwise would not give this phase of the question any consideration, and we believe it to be quite an important fact.

You are requested to closely investigate the authenticity of the articles reproduced herein, and decide for yourself the question, "What good or evil has the use of strong drink upon my physical and financial power?"

THE AUTHOR.
